Brexit Endgame

It seems to have taken forever, but the inescapable Brexit endgame is about to arrive.

British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to bring her EU withdrawal bill back to Parliament for a fourth vote, according to reports in UK media.

A second vote I can see. A third vote is excessive, but OK.
A fourth vote? Now we're getting stupid. It's the definition of insanity.

Personally I like the Jacobin's take on it.

Theresa May Is Hilariously Bad at Her Job

Theresa May's handling of Brexit has been so inept she doesn't even have enough support to resign.
...
The mood within Number 10 is one of both exhaustion and utter terror: when asked on Newsnight what was going on at the top of the Conservative Party, a cabinet minister replied, “Fuck knows. I’m past caring. It’s like the living dead in here.“

Normally this epic-level of incompetence would mean a massive victory for Labour.
However, the British news media has been working their smear machine overtime for three years now, and it taking its toll.
britain.jpg

That might be a depressing chart, except for three things.
One, the Tories would lose more seats (10) than Labour would (6).
Two, most polls have consistently underestimated Labour.
Three, the SNP is a natural coalition ally of Labour.

May has pulled out her last card and threatened to step down, which is what UK Labour wants.

Businesses are being warned to step up preparations for a government led by Jeremy Corbyn, amid the growing threat of a general election.

The trade body representing investment firms has told members that the prospects of a Labour prime minister are growing, with the two main parties "neck and neck" in the polls.

The Investment Association said the industry needed to "step up" attempts to influence Mr Corbyn's policies, citing his plans to nationalise rail and utility firms and impose a new levy on financial transactions.

That right there is what capitalism is all about. Moneyed influence.
Who will step up and not fall under the influence? I don't believe anybody of any power can resist the temptation of being a winner regardless of the rubes.

@Pricknick That seems to be the problem everywhere. Okay, of all the absurd lineup of Democratic candidates in the USA presidential race to topple Trump, none of them are willing to go against the money. Even Bernie. They all dance around the crux of the matter, and talk about incremental reform while the horrendous abuses of power and money are buried so they can they can WIN. So I say what do we win when we win? Nothing cause they all even Bernie or any 'serious' contender are 'all about the Benjamin's'

If I see one more send me xxx amount of money so I can beat the other crooks running against me I'm a gonna puke. The investment community my ass. As far a Brexit goes man oh man. I don't like the EU one bit but ....Like here you are stuck. Do you want a bunch of racist hater's or a global unfettered bankster economy? Huh? no thanks either way. All you can do is go get May (Trump)and the horse they rode in on out of here. But then what? At least Corbyn and Labour seem to be a valid alternative. Here we're fucked either way. Good luck Brit's hope May resigns and the Tories go down. They at least have a alternative party that looks way better then our choice.

@shaharazade one of the seven deadly sins?
You can't. It's inherent to human nature.
The only way to win is to perish and not let them monetize your soul.
Oops. The mormons have already done that. Double oops. The banks take out insurance on your death payable to them.
It all needs to burn down and that actually looks like what will happen.
Mother earth couldn't care less.

He is bombarding me with fundraising e-mails. I have never contributed a dime to his campaign, so it's apparently from ActBlue selling my name and e-mail address. Besides, I'm in Illinois, he's in Wisconsin. Get your own damn constituents to fund you, Evers!
Briefly considered donating to Pritzker last year, but sanity returned. "Hey, He's got more money than God. He's a Billionaire! Are you f..ing insane?"

I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.

The temptation to modify the headline to read "Hillary-ously bad at her job" proved to be overwhelming.....

Nice to see Tory morale on such an upswing.

Always a good sign going into an election cycle when the party's own leadership is comparing itself to zombies.

most polls have consistently underestimated Labour.

Take the over.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

I don't normally look at the DM but the link above led me there and I was greeted by this atop their homepage this morning:

Jeremy Corbyn could be poised for Downing Street if May calls an election after shock poll reveals Labour have taken a FIVE-point lead over Tories

Jeremy Corbyn would be poised on the threshold of Downing Street if Theresa May called a General Election, an exclusive Mail on Sunday poll has found.

After weeks of conflict in the Conservative Party, public support for Labour stands at 41 per cent, five points clear of the Tories on 36.

If repeated at an Election, Labour would be on course to win 307 seats, while the Conservatives would claim just 264.

Although Mr Corbyn would be 19 seats short of a majority, it would leave him in pole position to enter No 10 if he could strike an deal with the Scottish Nationalists.

@coolepairc SNP plus Plaid Cymru from Wales would put Jeremy over the line in this scenario. Jeremy also likely to get Greens and some Independents to join with him. Sinn Fein, for example.

In case you haven't heard it before it is:
The Tories don't like the EU's ecological and workplace safety laws, but they do like eastern European labor- it depresses wages and anyone who tries to stop it is called a racist.
Then along comes Jeremy Corbyn and people stop being fooled. So they run Brexit, planning to lose and discredit the labor movement. Then Brexit wins. On to Plan B, which is to take advantage of the failure of Plan A while punishing people as much as possible. May "runs out the clock", she gets a hard Brexit, Britan loses the EU enviro and safety regs, and unemployed dockworkers replace Poles as wage eroders. Of course this depends on keeping Corbys away from 10 Downing until it's too late, or him rejoining the EU and treating British workers like the Democrats treat American workers.

On to Biden since 1973

that everybody wants her gone, but nobody actually wants to replace her. Everybody knows that whoever actually "wins" the office after May leaves is fairly royally fucked. This whole mess will collapse on the poor sap that succeeds her.
