Facebook Now Blocking Re-post from Philly Protest Movement Sites as "Abusive"

It now seems that Facebook is blocking attempts to share or re-post content from sites that are involved in the March on DNC and other protest groups, by blocking users from sharing those posts and displaying to them the following message:

The action attempted has been deemed abusive or is otherwise disallowed.

To keep from getting blocked again, please make sure you've read and understand Facebook's community standards.

Here is a screenshot of Facebook censorship of sites related to Sanders and the related rallies, marches and events planned to coincide with the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia:

Facebook banned post.jpg

This is either something that Correct the Record (or other trolls) are doing to disrupt the events planned to support Bernie and oppose the DNC in Philadelphia or someone at Facebook is intentionally trying to censor these sites. Note that this user also refers to porn being posted on Bernie sites, as well.

The lengths to which they are going to shut down dissent regarding the presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton, and our corrupt pay for play political system in the Democratic party, have reached ever more ridiculous levels. I, for one am sickened by what I am seeing over the last few days, even as we learn more about how the DNC and Clinton campaign worked to embed false narratives in the media about Bernie from the documents released by the Guccifer 2.0 hacker.

Appalled is not a strong enough word, nor disgust, nor repulsed. Ashamed of my country for falling into such a state where we are as bad as any "banana republic" that ever existed, and angry at the depths to which these guttersnipes will go to keep the people down and serve the One percenters.

The suggestions don't get much attention because (I think) they take a tad more effort. Here are a couple:

FB is not the only social media outlet. Neither is Twitter. There are alternatives to those two. Yes, people will prefer one alternative over another so centralization is needed. That is what the next suggestion does.

It is free and quite easy to set up WordPress sites and there are a couple of other places that offer free web sties. these could be used as distribution centers. They can be group managed. Multiples per state would be needed in case someone wasn't able to keep up or has a problem with the site, this also help keep bandwidth in check as free sites tend to not have unlimited access.

Bulk email can be used to point people to where the information is. People who receive a message then send it to their groups. So on and so forth.

Surprise! The telephone still exists.

It is almost like people want to come together but they don't want personal contact. In past movements, people actually knew each other. Social media is distancing, not bringing people together.

is that individual people can pick what is most comfortable for them. If a person is stuck into a role they don't like, they will be less effective.

I cannot talk long on the telephone. If and when I talk a lot, my allergies or sinuses or whatever kick in and I end up with massive coughing and problems breathing. I found using Twitter worked well for me the last couple of months. I was able to send out a huge number per day targeting specific groups. Some of those tweets reached (from the last check) at least 70,000 people.

If Twitter starts (or continues--there are various opinions on that), there are similar applications available. They may not currently reach as many people, but they will grow once people abandon the places they are being censored at.

The various alternatives also need to be easy to do so they don't take over a person's life...say along the lines of something they can work at for half and hour to an hour a day, with days off. = ) Maybe a group effort where person A does the action of Tues and Thurs, person B on Wed and Fri, etc. there are various programs that can help with that also.

For example, I set up my tweets in a program called Hootsuite (there are a number of others, most like this one are free) and after they were set up, I just need to go in once a day and set up a schedule for them to go out.

The same kind of scheduling and group sharing can be used for any of the alternatives to FB.

Mewe.com looks really appealing to me. It's a social networking site similar to Facebook, but without the ads and invasions of privacy. In fact, the company's business model is adamant about privacy and freedom of expression. Worth a look! I agree with Winddancer about FB being a waste of time and energy.

Seems like a mass exodus from the dem party ought to coincide with a rejection of corporate-fascist "social media". IMHO, for what it's worth. Smile

I will take a bit more time later to look around, but i noticed that they also have a chat which would be quite helpful.

I should add to my previous list that people can call on Skype for free to other people with Skype. So there is another avenue. I think you can also do conference calls for free there. Something to check on. I pay $60/yr for full Skype usage and an incoming phone number. (Keeps cell phone usage down as I can use Skype for long calls.)

I certainly agree that we should not support anything that does not enhance our ability to communicate and disseminate information.

Also, I would like to try to see if there might be a workaround. Could someone please tell me some sites on FB that are involved in the March on DNC?

but the cult of Donald and the cult of Hillary -- cults not based on anything policy-related at all-- are instructive. In my own lifetime , I am seeing firsthand how fascist oligarchies operate.....because it's happening RIGHT NOW.

"Facebook is preventing the organizers of the Philly events from providing information to the people who we know will be coming to Philadelphia to protest the DNC, you know the people building a wall to keep all of us "peons" and "serfs" out of sight, out of mind, and out of their hair. the never-Trump Republicans & Correct the Record bots (same people?) have taken over DKOS and apparently now Facebook. How can we petition Facebook?

I just got back from reading about about Hillary's DNC chair taking over in DKOS, and I need to shower for about 3 hours. I've been checking back in from time to time to read non-Hillary/Bernie diaries, but I thought they finally got rid of DWC so I stupidly read it & then the comments. The whole comments section looks like the comments on Fox, without quite as much cursing but a lot more personal insults. It's like a whole different set of people are on DK than when I first discovered the site during the Michael Brown case. I've been called a Looney Liberal - what the hell kind of Democrat calls another Democrat that name? I thought we were supposed to be proud to be liberal. Helping poor people used to be a Democratic standard - now they're making fun of them over there. They might as well just start calling them "Losers" like Drumpf.

I initially wanted Elizabeth Warren to run, but was happy with Bernie. I fully intended to vote for Hillary in the general if she won the primary, but her supporters or bots and the games they are playing changed my mind. I intend to write in the person I think should be president. Even just the mention of Bernie's name sends them into paroxysms. At first, I thought it was because they were so afraid of Trump, but now that his polls are going down, they are worse. Maybe they think they have nothing to be afraid of any more. I feel like I've been punched in the gut.

Brothers and sisters ... I address you thusly in the spirit of revolution. We must dig deep for courage and resist. We have a choice to reject what they are offering. We can say no, lawful noncompliance. Our struggle is as much an individual, internal struggle as it is a collective, external one. It is up to each one of us to stop doing what we do not want to do. I know it's tough, who can afford to quit their job? But we must find a way to do the next right thing in every moment.

I don't know how and am open to ideas but man, my mind has been blown. I've been literally puking and weeping for a week because I realize I have been choosing my next action through the fog of cognitive dissonance. Waking up to reality has been shattering for me. Life shattering. In one moment if despair, I couldn't think of any reason to continue besides my don and cat who need ne, and my handsome nerdy squire who loves me. Without them, I'd seriously consider checking out. Heroin would be my go to escape route since I could probably get it easier than a bottle of Xanax.

Okay, thats the level of despair I dunk to the other day, then I put my bug girl oanturs on, called myself a WATB and set about on my new path of resistance.

If it feels bad or wrong, don't do it.

Thanks for "listening.". I hope I don't sound hyperbolic as I mean every word I wrote quite literally.

I am not sure this is still done, but schools used to have parents take turns calling other parents to remind them or inform them of certain happenings. if HRC is elected, I fully expect there to be problems using the internet ofr organizing. Heck, her Orlando pandering talked about the need for more Internet surveillance.

Isolation--even though many don't think of social media that way, it is--is key to stiffing voices. How many spend 100x more time on the Internet talking to strangers than we do talking to our next door neighbor?

Keep busy. Take it from a person who has been suicidal for nearly all her life--please note that I am still here--screwing up, I found, was not worth it even though the thought still crosses my mind at least once a day.

Orwell was an optimist

have made opportunistic alliances in order to shutdown some of the more articulate Bernie advocates.

Shaun King was a victim of this with the false plagiarism charge a couple months ago. He's hated by wingnuts because of his focus on issues related to police brutality. But of course, Clinton's people went after him too because he's been such a strong Bernie advocate.

e.g.

https://theintercept.com/2016/04/20/false-plagiarism-accusation-against-...

Of course the net result has probably pushed Shaun permanently into the opposition along with a number of his readers. That incident in particular was an eye-opener, because people who purport to be journalists never bothered to contact him to test the claim and verify it; and then when the claim was proven to be false, there was no apology from the publications that originated the charge.

Others like Matt Bruenig previously of Demos have also faced similar orchestrated harassment campaigns.

In both cases too, I think it's important to underscore that the attacks have been orchestrated by people with ties to the Clinton campaign AND right-wing trolls who have an axe to grind with both writers (e.g. Shaun because of black lives matter reporting, Bruenig, because of his evisceration of libertarian arguments).

You could see this as well with pushback stories targeted at publications like Salon.com which were very Pro-Bernie. Chomsky's argument about "Manufacturing Consent" is more relevant now than ever. With media consolidation things have gotten worse.

Unaccountable power is always a problem. Facebook's ability to consolidate a market is part of its appeal and also part of the problem. I don't know the specifics of this case, whether these are actions being done by Facebook specifically, or whether it is people in the Clinton campaign who know enough about site algorithms to act as de facto censors (e.g. that was part of how some Clinton trolls took down some of the Bernie "fan" pages during the campaign season). Either way, I'd be curious to know what the answer is.
