Houthis + Somali pirates

By now pretty much everyone is aware that the Houthis in Yemen are siding with the Palestinians when it comes to shipping.
What I thought was interesting, but has been ignored so far is what is happening on the other side of the Red Sea.

The latest ship to come under attack in the Red Sea near the Yemeni coast has turned out to have been hijacked by Somali pirates.

The initial reports suggested the MV Ruenm a bulk carrier sailing under a Maltese flag, had become the latest target of the Houthis who vowed to strike any vessel bound for Israeli ports.

Now, reports over the weekend are saying that the ship was heading to Somalia. It had sent a distress signal on Thursday saying six people had boarded it and the Indian Navy sent an anti-privacy patrol ship and a patrol aircraft to track the ship’s movement, the AP reported. So far, nobody has claimed responsibility for the hijacking.

Earlier, the Telegraph reported that the hijacked ship was heading to the Yemeni coast, suggesting there could be cooperation between the Houthis and the Somali pirates.

to putting an economic bite in the blight of Israel genocide.
So far, only the fringes are getting involved.
This may change as the destruction of Palestine continues?
One may hope to see this madness end by whatever means.

Houthi attacks on Red Sea merchant shipping threaten global economic recovery

Shipping in the Red Sea is grinding to a halt with oil tankers idling and containers rerouting around Africa, as violence linked to the Israel-Hamas war threatens to undermine the global economy.

Two European oil and gas giants said on Monday their tankers would avoid waters off the coast of Yemen — an unavoidable waypoint for ships using the Suez Canal to cut between Europe and Asia. They join major container shippers who pulled out of the area last week as Iran-backed Houthi militants stepped up attacks in support of Hamas.

European natural gas prices surged by as much as 13 per cent amid the most concrete sign yet of disruption to energy flows since the start of the war in Gaza. Brent oil futures jumped as much as 3.9 per cent.

From BP PLC to A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S, companies that transport consumer goods, commodities like coal and corn, and energy supplies face longer journeys. While there’s some slack in global supply lines to absorb the recent capacity strains, the sudden closure of the Suez Canal in 2021 showed how fragile networks are when major links break down.

United States officials are scrambling to come up with a response as global trade comes under threat. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will convene fellow ministers Tuesday and is expected to come up with a new maritime task force to deal with the Yemen-based militants. But it’s not straightforward, and Gulf allies in the region don’t agree on the correct approach.

@humphrey

who da f*ck are they trying to kid?
The so-called global economy has been on life support since before 9/11
and has been going downhill since. They can blame it on Houthis, pirates
in Somalia, RUS, CHI or Africa. The ones responsible are in NYC and London.
The sideline dealers are changing the rules of the game.
There is no recovery going on.
The US buck stops here.
Sorry Wall Street. The cards are on the table.
