Looks like shit is going off down at the DNC Convention, nothing bad yet

but cops are there and tensions are obviously high.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCxmQsfhieY]

All the protesters are chanting we are not violent.

Edited to reflect that it is not on the floor but appears to be outside the convention.

Seems seem to be calming down again, but tensions are high.

This is gonna get even more tense tomorrow.

Edited again to add this link of the outside livestream.

that was coming out of the incident in a Sanders shirt that had gotten knocked aside by the cops said it was a group shouting anarchist slogans that had been there earlier trying to co-opt or ride along on the protest.

So no real evidence just some early reports from video feeds from the event. I don't recall which stream it was, maybe the TYT outdoor feed or one off of twitter.

"Therefore there is no fixed and constant authority, but a continual exchange of mutual, temporary, and, above all, voluntary authority and subordination. This same reason forbids me, then, to recognise a fixed, constant and universal authority, because there is no universal man, no man capable of grasping in all that wealth of detail, without which the application of science to life is impossible, all the sciences, all the branches of social life."

Trump wants to build a wall between us and Mexico, the DNC already has one between the voters and the convention...

So fucking typical of life under authoritarians.

Fences everywhere.

Better buy some stock in Chain link manufacturers...

It's only gonna get worse under a Clinton presidency.

I'd say, personality-wise, they'd more likely to go with barbed wire, probably electrified. Can't have the little people going off the treadmill track they're destined for.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

I watch on C-SPAN and sometimes (very rarely) the camera moves over to him and I have the feeling he is unusually red faced and not at all looking well. May be it's my imagination. I can't imagine how it must be to sit there and have to listen through all of it.

I saw a video of Bernie speaking to the WA delegates today. He projected energy when speaking and looked OK, although a tad tired, which is understandable.

I suspect that he's soul-sick.

Also, he may have had something set up which would require the delegates he avoided releasing when he avoided conceding to Hillary by moving for a suspension of rules to nominate Hillary.

president of Yale. I spent 10 years in college getting my degrees including taking a large number of law classes, and I taught at colleges for umpteen years and spent a year teaching seventh and eighth graders in a Catholic school. That makes me the best qualified person ever for this office, so please send me the key to the Yale president's executive bathroom and clear the desk for me. (PS. I will bring my own computer and email system.)

(look it up -- "12 Labors of Herakles" -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labours_of_Hercules#Fifth_Labour:_Augean_S...) Herakles apprenticed to the local plumbers' union, became competent in that trade, and when he had been trained, examined, and certified as a Master Plumber, went out and accomplished what the "Free Marketeers" in that part of Greece thought to be impossible --

When he's the guy who made it not dischargeable in bankruptcy.

As a senator from Delaware -- a corporate tax haven where the financial industry is one of the state’s largest employers -- Biden was one of the key proponents of the 2005 legislation that is now bearing down on students like Ryan. That bill effectively prevents the $150 billion worth of private student debt from being discharged, rescheduled or renegotiated as other debt can be in bankruptcy court.

These guys just don't quit.

"We are not violent"?

Here, I've got some more good slogans for them:

"We are harmless"
"We are impotent"
"Please dismiss us"
"No ratings here"

Serious question here: I keep hearing that the strength of nonviolent protest is the moral superiority, public awareness, and support protesters gain when they're brutally repressed.

If this is all part of the big strategy, then why do you worry about their "toys" and try to provoke only the mildest possible reaction from police? When is this outrageous brutality supposed to happen, especially considering that the police are wise to your strategy and trained to avoid public displays of brutality?

Did no one tell you that martyrdom needs martyrs?

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Mark from Queens's picture

In my community of NYC we've been accosted by regular helicopter traffic, because imo, the 1% just don't want to have to deal with traffic like the lowly minions these sociopaths collectively shit on everyday while making "business deals" (Whats good for business is good for America, right? That's what they tell us!). They don't want to take a chance on having to see the destruction they've wrought, lest their conscience be miraculously challenged.

So I put my middle finger up defiantly, to police helicopters also. My gesture, I think, is more to rile up a public indignation I feel is missing in our communities at these raw displays of fear and intimidation on the one hand, and a dissatisfaction at the unnecessary noise (that drowns out conversation for a full 10 seconds sometimes, and brusquely inserts itself into our private mental space, to thousands and thousands at a time in NYC). It is also a show solidarity for common people who do not ride in helicopters. Perhaps they'll stop to think why this guy has had such a colorful reaction to it.

Fuck these people, as George Carlin would say. These authoritarian, power hungry and greedy bastards.

As for the cops I look at them as just regular joes who been subject to a degree of brainwashing. Since Occupy I've come to loathe them and their profession, as it becomes clear they are pawns for the powers that be, especially financial ones, and it is also evident that all basic policing is arbitrary. My cousins, who I don't keep in touch with much at all, are cops too.

My thing now when I see cops, especially after the horrific murders of too many black and brown folks and I'm at a protest, is to remind them to treat people with respect. "Because when you don't you're whole profession suffers." I've gone off on phalanxes of cops too. During the MillionsMarchNYC response to the Eric Garner non-indictment in which 30k or more people marched for hours throughout the city, I was taken over by emotion and the gravity of the situation. I began yelling at bunches of them, "where's the 'good cop' we keep hearing about? There is no good cop; not when you can all stand around while one of you strangles an unresisting man and no one intervenes! Stand up and do the right thing- or there is no good cop. Your whole profession suffers when you stand silent at this murder."

We can't let this kind of authoritarianism pervade. Take a public stand. Others will too.
