Sounds interesting. Based on a lost love evidently...

I see bang clang refers to 1862 – The USS Monitor and CSS Virginia fought to a draw in the first battle between two ironclad warships.

Regardless of what you call it, hope you all have a good one!

the headline, but the graphic would've been more difficult than for bang-clang day. There is also a certain cleverness to bang-clang day, imagining what it must've been like to a participant or observer from an auditory standpoint and the fact that it was a draw.

Have a good one.

Macron is too embarrassed and a half-assedcharmed, more elegant intellectual Merkel clone. Roettgen sees an opening for himself, but is a Merkel 2.0 edition.

I think Merkel doesn't want to lead, because she has some doubts of the usefulness idiot leaders. I think that's what she experienced from her upbringing.

It is hard for me to listen to the Duran. Merkel is treacherous. Merkel a practicioner of the dark arts. Aha, interesting, don't you love the dark arts, at least a little bit, kind of get your juices flowing under the surface?

Just for the record, though Merkels non-leadership preference is playing out in the open, I distrust AKK, Merz, van der Leyen, and Roettgen. Laschet is more trusted than the rest of the bunch. He is also the cute guy like 'cutsy' GWBush or an uncle Joe Biden type at their early days.

Forget about all of them.

Musings about cowardness ...

“A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a short cut to meet it.” ...

In the defense of equal rights this quote is true for women too, amirite?

It is not fun to make up ones mind about the 'political gang' in Germany these days. Nothing to see here for you, but I had the desire to be of service for those who want to torture themselves to understand those 'Germanic' leading tribal competitors.

@mimi
politics is global politics is, in turn, just the more distant reaches of current politics. The perspective of those local thereto is necessary for comprehension, and ergo always welcome. My high school German teacher said, in light of our local, parochial, xenophobit, militaristic and jingoist newspaper monopoly that understanding world events required also reading Die Zeit and at least one British paper. For me, this required trips to the library and, accordingly, always being a few days behind, but it was definitely broadening. So, thanks.

I imagine that would be round about the same as asking me in 11th grade to read the "Harper's Magazine' or the 'Atlantic Magazine' or the "New Yorker". But usually it is easier for a German to learn English than for an English speaker to learn German.

Kudos that you actually tried to read it. That is quite demanding for a highschool student, I would say. What a teacher.

is a nice thought as I head to court.
I look forward to introducing some specific statutes to a young hipster lawyer from Dallas that he has evidently never seen. I hope to shut him up, and hope he just gets over it.

@enhydra lutris He didn't back off, we had a short trial, and he wishes he had backed off,and it is on him to get over it. Too fun!
He represented the wife in a divorce case, but her Dad was funding it. I took the wife/paying Dad's daughter on the stand for cross-examination, and Dad got so angry and noisy as my questions continued, he was removed from the courthouse grounds, forced to stay completely off the premises.
He is also going to have to get over it.
At least he didn't make any physical threats to me, and I exited the courthouse with armed escort.

I don't think he ever thought of himself as doing science, his chair was Moral Philosophy.
I believe the notion that economics is science, which it is not, is much more modern.
A couple of insights from Wealth of Nations:
If governments couldn't borrow, and had to make war with taxation only, there would be no wars.
If the Crown manages to hold on to its American colonies, the capital will have to move from London to New York.

and reflexively think of all the stupid uses to which it has been put, the myriad dumb arguments based on it and the fact that certain bits of it have become ingrained as part of both our culture and the mythification of our history and go off on it. Then there's the fact that it had a lot to do with the growth and creation of "econ" as we know it today. Not his fault, I know.

Thanks for reading and for coming to his defense.

Why so hard on Adam Smith ?

I don't think he ever thought of himself as doing science, his chair was Moral Philosophy.
I believe the notion that economics is science, which it is not, is much more modern.

In Adam Smith's day (1723 - 1790), the terms "science" and "philosophy" were synonymous. Use of the terms as we use them today was pretty much a 19th Century development.

And you're right: Smith himself would be the first to agree that economics is no science, as we use the term today.

Who knew?

Speaking of which, have always been a big fan of the meatball. Although in my house, we rarely used them in the traditional Italian way. Instead, my Mother used to make this wonderful stroganoff meatball dish with homemade egg noodles. Mmmm....the memory of it still sounds rather marvelous.

meatballs, the output is invariably too many for one meal for two. I'm pretty sure that, as a result, I still have two servings worth stuffed in the freezer somewhere, and I make a mean homemade egg noodle. I just finished my week to cook, but come next Monday I know what I'm making, Wink

Thanks and have a good one.

You know, pork + cabbage, carrots, water chestnuts, ginger, green onion, soy sauce and sesame oil? It's basically a ball inside the wrapper.

If so, my timing is unintentionally spot on, because I'll be making a big batch to mostly freeze later today.

Your mom's dish sounds delicious!
