Oil Spill in Canada

About 200,000 litres of oil spilled near Stoughton, Sask., last week, the biggest pipeline breach in the province since the Husky Oil spill last summer.

It happened on First Nations land near Stoughton, about 140 kilometres southeast of Regina.

Quotes are from http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/stoughton-oil-spill-cleanup-1.... Emphasis is mine.

The spill has not affected air quality or wildlife as of yet, the government said.

There are multiple pipelines in the area of the leak. Until the site is excavated Wednesday, it will not be known which one is responsible.

The spill comes seven months after a 225,000-litre Husky oil spill, in which some entered the North Saskatchewan River.

All pipelines leak. All pipelines spill.

Fight one near you!

Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.

On my way to work every week, I pass by the old Port Arthur, Texas, Gulf Oil refinery. I'm pretty sure it's been in operation since before 1910. No longer owned by the (now defunct) Gulf Oil Corp., it is still in operation. A Texas state highway runs through the middle of it.

When I pass by, I have to set my car's air conditioning system to recirculate in order to keep the noxious fumes out of the vehicle. If the prevailing wind is in the opposite direction, you still have to keep out the noxious fumes from the adjacent Texaco refinery - which I believe is the largest Saudi holding in the United States.

the people and plants and animals cannot either.
We've witnessed an election season where the existential threat was ignored by the candidates and ignored by the media. As far as the establishment is concerned, the biosphere doesn't count: Profit counts.

As far as I know, the Kalamazoo River is not completely cleaned up yet. The Gulf of Mexico is poisoned due to the catastrophe there a few years ago and an inadequate response to it.

When's the last time you saw a status report on the ongoing radiation spew at Fukushima? The radiation is measurable on the west coast of North America and no solution is in sight.

@duckpin but look at all the pipelines that they Have to put underneath any water source which we know that eventually will spill and leak into people's drinking water. This could be another way of population control.
What happened in Flint went on for years with the government's knowledge of the damage it was doing to the poor areas of town.
Over a year after it was discovered people are still not getting clean drinking water and only a few people have been charged.
Why the hell wasn't that considered a national emergency. Why the hell wasn't Snyder and his cronies charged?
Look at the government's response to Katrina. Bush and many others in his administration left thousands of people to die.
And then indeed of helping them to rebuild their homes, they were demolished instead.
Now look at how many other cities where poor people live have either contaminated water or live by corporation's shit like the Koch brothers huge piles of that petrochemical leftovers that gets into their air and water or all over any food that is left out.

Wars are another way to decrease the population. We know that Syria was in a horrible draught and those people were going to have to eventually migrate. So let's kill a few million of them and then they don't have to worry about climate refugees.
This wasn't my idea. Some other authors have written about the upcoming climate change refugee migration.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

Voting is like driving with a toy steering wheel.

@snoopydawg Uncle Whiskers pointed out capitalism's need for a "reserve army of labor" a large group of desperate people willing to take any job at any price no matter who they displace because they are on the edge of starvation.

We've gotten to the point, with the financialization of global monopoly capital(where the giant corporations administer prices instead of letting prices be set by competition), where there are estimated to be 1 billion deprived people living on the edge. Capitalism doesn't need that many right now and to the meager extent these very poor people are helped, that's money the greedheads can keep for themselves.

So, to agree with you, there are "excess human resources" that are taking some profit away from capital.

As to Flint and the other towns and small cities with poison water, I think incompetence and the RW starving needed government agencies which monitor these things is the larger component. The fact that no one has been prosecuted lies with the Republicans and with the Obama wing of the Democratic party. After all, it was a professor at Virginia Tech who went to Flint and properly conducted the water sampling not the state of Michigan and not the EPA. As a smaller part of this tragedy, auto production left Flint and the people left without jobs are superfluous people no more valuable to capital than the people of Haiti.

@duckpin While I'm not defending Daishi Electric by any means, here is an article from Inquisitr featuring reporting from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

To put it in context, if you were to swim every day for six hours a day in those waters for a year, that additional radiation from the addressed cesium from Japan… is 1000 times smaller than one dental x-ray.

Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.

@The Aspie Corner I blame the dems. They were warned, they promoted him, they own him.

Not that that does our ecosystem and dispossessed any good. Or my personal relationships...
