A Perfect Example This Am On Why HRC Doesn't Do Press Conferences

Anyone watching Morning Joe this morning got a texbook example of how Hillary Clinton does an end-run around actual journalists and why she will avoid press conferences for the foreseeable future.

She appeared for a rather lengthy "interview" with Joe and Mika in which she spoke compellingly about what an idiot racist xenophobe Trump is (all true, but in the "shooting fish in a barrel category) and then the topic moved on to The Clinton Foundation in which she filibustered successfully for multiple minutes on AIDS AIDS AIDS and all the good the Clinton Foundation did in distributing AIDS drugs, which is not in dispute.

But what no TV interviewer or anchor is prepared to move the conversation onto, is the nexus between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department that is not health related. The Health Initiative is one arm of the Foundation that is run separately from the rest of it. The topic under discussion and of interest in any influence peddling investigation, is the COPORATE Charity and do-gooding that she was a part of where companies that were donors got exceptional access and exceptional results - like this:

Oh, Denny Boy, How the Clintons Helped an Irish Telecom Tycoon Make Millions In Earthquake Ravaged Haiti

Joe and Mika turned into forelock tugging minions during her filibuster and afterwards agreed that the primary motivator in HRC's public life has been "to do good." They followed that up with observations on her personal bravery because she was willing to come on the show when they have been "very hard on her". The irony in their comments to anyone who watches the show on a regular basis is that Joe has been scathing about pundits who allow themselves to be rolled on the AIDS smokescreen for the entire Foundation and then he falls into the exact trap he has railed against! Very amusing in an unamusing way.

There are skeptics in the country who feel that the Clintons have had no peers in "doing well" for themselves as a result of holding public office because they were also smart enough to build numerous cloaking devices and smoke screens that show them "doing good"; Americans aren't sophisticated enough apparently, to see that the two are not mutually exclusive, like drug kingpins who murder their rivals and decimate societies while paying for eye surgeries for poor blind kids at the same time. Do the eye surgeries mitigate the drug dealing and murders?

This is why HRC will only do these one-on-ones, because the "journalists" doing the interview get rolled over, a situation that could not and does not happen in an unfettered press conference where numerous reporters have deep knowlege of the topic.

I can't believe Americans are okay with voting for someone who doesn't have the guts to face the national press corps. This is a person who already went way out of her to foil the FOIA while SOS. We will have the least transparent, most opaque and least accountable Presidency in history under her watch based on her past and current behavior.

Its a sad day when the best anyone can say about the DNC Nominee is "she and her husband haven't been convicted yet"...They've taken grifting to a whoIe new IeveI, by getting very, very rich in a matter of years by hiding behind a charity.

Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?
Most of the people who have commented on the article titled
Clinton Foundation Defenders Sound A Lot Like Citizens United Apologists
are defending the Clintons for the reason you mentioned. Their work with AIDS drugs. Yes that is nice that they are helping people get access to those drugs, but look at the people in Haiti. After over 6 years after the earthquake there are so many people still living in tents.
The Clintons wanted to get the sweatshop back up and running so they took farm land away from farmers and instead of the factory employing up to 6,000 people, it is far less. Anyone who wanted in on the reconstruction had to go through the Clinton foundation first, and of course give a donation.
Hillary's state department was very involved in the presidential nomination and then there is her interference of making sure that the minimum wage wasn't raised above $.31 per hour.
If you go to their website to see what they are about and how the foundation helps people there isn't a clear picture of what it does.
Search for "Clinton Haiti scandal" to see how horribly they screwed the people with their foundation and who as usual got the big contracts.

or "there's no evidence" etc.

I have MSNBC on in the background right now and the new legal standard for investigations according to the pundits is that you have to have proof of wrong doing before an investigation is launched.

Who knew? I always thought an investigation is what produced the proof, if any exists. I thought the legal standard to launch an investigation was "probable cause" to suspect that some wrongdoing may have taken place.

Phoning in to "Morning Joe" is almost as good as Twitter for getting talking points on the air without having to deal with real journalists.

I liked her explanation that it's just so complicated and hard to separate the Clinton Foundation from politics. In reality I think it could be done with one phone call.

According to The New York Times, Hillary’s brother, Tony Rodham, testified under oath that he was given 10,000 acres of land in Haiti by a “guy” who wanted to build housing. Tony described his access: “I deal through the Clinton Foundation. That gets me in touch with the Haitian officials.”

In addition to the land, Peter Schweitzer revealed in Clinton Cash that Tony was given a seat on the Board of a mining company that received one of only two gold exploration permits in Haiti. But don’t worry, it wasn’t a sweetheart deal. Tony told The Times that the deal had nothing to do with Clinton. Schweitzer also documented the overlap among donors to the Clinton Foundation, patrons of Bill’s speeches, and contracts in Haiti.

I found another great comment from the WSJ article MsGrin linked to yesterday.

"But does it even matter? What we discovered this week is that one of the nation’s top officials created a private server that housed proof that she continued a secret, ongoing entwinement with her family foundation—despite ethics agreements—and that she destroyed public records. If that alone doesn’t disqualify her for the presidency, it’s hard to know what would."

Most of the comments there are against the Clintons.
When someone wrote a diary about the foundation on DK, he and the commenters cherry picked the information.
The only thing I read about the foundation doing is their work on AIDS drugs.
As I wrote above, their website doesn't really say what the money goes for.

Was listening to Pacifica Radio WBAI last night while cooking and was riveted by this converstation.

This Haitian national, Brother Barry, of the Committee to Mobilize Against Dictatorship in Haiti, really gets into it with the show host of "Education At The Crossroads." Among other things talks about the Haitian Pres being a "crackhead installed by the Clintons." Gets into an explanation of the level of theft they were involved in regarding the 2010 earthquake resulting in the embezzlement of $8 billion in relief funds, and also how they have pimped black people in America. Six years later people still living in devastation, in makeshift tents, while they only managed to build, literally, six houses. But they did build high-rise luxury hotels on the beach.

Talks about how people in Haiti see the Clintons as far more dangerous than Trump. It goes on...

Quite compelling.

I am not ure who runs WND.com , and it seems like its a bit on the tin foil hat side of the political spectrum. But, the following needs investigation and/or investigation. Is it true the HIV drugs are paid for by airline taxes??? If true was this money channeled through the Clinton Foundation? If it was,how can skimming be proved? Which "pharmaceutical companies" are profiting?

According to the UNITAID website, CHAI. established by President Bill Clinton in 2002, approached UNITAID, created in 2006, “to reach groups in developing countries that were neglected by HIV drug markets,” resolving to combine forces in 2008.

The UNITAID-CHAI joint venture’s goal was to combine UNITAID’s innovative financing that relied on levies charged on airline tickets in participating countries with CHAI’s entrepreneurial approach to getting international pharmaceutical companies to produce antiretroviral, or ARV, drugs throughout the developed world at prices discounted because of the massive scale of the market.

“The deal positioned the Clinton Foundation to have access to hundreds of millions of dollars from what amounted to a tax imposed on millions of average airline passengers,” explained Ortel.

“The Clinton Foundation financial reporting strongly suggests the Clintons were able to skim off for their personal use tens of millions of dollars from the funds WHO sent to CHAI from UNITAID levies,” Ortel said.

“The scam was perfected,” he concluded, “when a key player in developing the CHAI ‘discount generic drug’ strategy touted as revolutionary by Bill and Hillary Clinton, namely Ranbaxy in India, achieved their ‘economy of scale’ by selling drugs the company knew were so drastically substandard that the Ranbaxy ARV products had no chance of curing any HIV/AIDS patients taking the drugs in the third world countries to which the Clinton Foundation delivered them. CHAI (The Clinton Health Access Initiative) , established by President Bill Clinton in 2002, approached UNITAID, created in 2006, “to reach groups in developing countries that were neglected by HIV drug markets,” resolving to combine forces in 2008.

Confirmed: From the UNITAID site: UNITAID receives its funds through airline ticket taxes or regular budget contributions. Countries implementing the airline tax include Chile, France, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger and the Republic of Korea. Norway allocates part of its tax on carbon dioxide emissions from air travel to UNITAID. UNITAID's membership grew from five countries in 2006 to 29 countries and one foundation in 2008

I want to add that it is the Gates Foundation that is the member, not CHAI. UNITAID DONATES MONEY TO THE CLINTONS, NOT VIS-VERSA

CONFIRMED: Detailed information provided to me by Ortel – and which I carefully reviewed and confirmed -- shows that the Clinton Foundation has received more than $1 billion over the years to purchase HIV/AIDS drugs for poor people in Africa, Asia and elsewhere. The leading donors to the foundation to support this admirable goal include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and UNITAID.

However, a unit set up to receive the money – the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative Inc., which was run by Ira Magaziner, a Clinton administration veteran with close ties to Hillary – clearly spent far, far less than it took in. In fact, the unit’s accounting methods and operating practices were so shoddy that its license was revoked by the state of Massachusetts, where it was headquartered.

UNITAID alone reported donations to the Clinton Foundation of about $341.5 million during that period while the Clinton Foundation claims it spent about $215.4 million.

When Massachusetts shut down the HIV/AIDS Initiative unit, the Clinton Foundation simply folded its operations into its own and pretended nothing had happened. All of this was flatly illegal, but the IRS, whose tax-exempt wing was led during most of the relevant period by Lois Lerner, did zero. Obama’s Justice Department investigated Lerner on unrelated charges, but never filed charges.

So, am I reading this right? The Clinton's figure out a way to tax the middle class airline passenger, the tax is given to an NGO who donats it to Clinton. And while handling UNITAID's money the Clinton's skim off a third, thats over 100 million dollars.

The reason for the drastic lowering in the cost of HIV medicines had nothing to do with Clinton. It had to do with India producing generic HIV drugs at 4% of the cost of USA drug companies:

In 2000, the international aid organization Doctors Without Borders launched small HIV/AIDS treatment projects in Thailand, South Africa and Cameroon. At the time, the cost of treating one person with anti-retroviral drugs was about $10,000 a year, posing a significant challenge for humanitarian groups fighting HIV/AIDS in developing countries.

Then, in 2001, the price of HIV/AIDS treatments suddenly dropped by 96 percent, as generic drug manufacturers in India began competing in the anti-retroviral drug market

http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/26721-big-pharma-lobbies-hard-to-end-...

.

What it appears to have happened (or is happening) is that Clinton's big pharma allies have been lobbying to change India's patent laws so that they will no longer be able to produce drugs that poor people can afford. This actually seems monstrous to me on any number of levels.

Can anyone tell me why Clintons' HIV drugs rake-off scheme gets the credit for doing what WHO (UNITAID) and people in India did?

politics and have public funded campaigns. The amount of money that different lobbying groups give to our government officials is staggering. But what is more staggering is how the money is used by our government to do the lobbyist's bidding.
How lobbying isn't looked at as bribery is beyond my understanding.
But this is what the drug company's lobbyists got 2 congress members to do.

Wyden is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, and is one of four members of Congress who helped put mounting diplomatic pressure on India by requesting that the International Trade Commission launch a special investigation into India's trade policies in 2013. As Prime Minister Modi arrived in Washington in late September, Wyden and his allies filed another request to the commission demanding a second investigation into "India's trade policies that discriminate against US trade and investment" to build on the first.

Joining Wyden in the request is Finance Committee Chairman Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who has received $341,600 in campaign contributions from pharmaceutical manufacturers since 2008 - more than any other member of Congress. Since 2012, Hatch's campaign war chest has received more than $105,800 from Merck and its employees, $117,000 from Amgen and $44,000 from Pfizer.

And this activity goes on in every other industry which shows that our government doesn't work for us but the corporations. And they always have going back to the robber barons days.

I don't know if it's clear that this is from the truthout article about how our government put pressure on India because they lowered the AIDS drugs and were developing new ones that were cutting into other pharmaceutical company's profits.

influence:

The use of think tanks, business associations, other “third party validators … with unquestionable credibility,” one cable said, relates to the “peculiarity of the American political system.” Think tanks, the cable continued, “have considerable influence” on government officials, especially because so many former officials move in and out of think tank work. Mentioning the State Department as one agency that could be swayed through think tank advocacy, the memo goes on to state, “our work focuses on the most influential think tanks … across the political spectrum.” The memo lists several think tanks such as the Atlantic Council, the Heritage Foundation and the Hudson Institute.

One undated cable describes the relative advantages of the various lobbying firms on retainer for the Moroccan government. In the section on the Moffett Group, a company founded by Toby Moffett, a former Democratic congressman, the cable touts a “professional and personal relationship” between Moffett’s daughter and Tony Blinken, deputy secretary of state and former deputy national security advisor to President Obama. (The Moffet Group ended its relationship with Morocco last year, though Moffett is still retained individually through the law firm Mayer Brown, where he works as a senior advisor.)

briefly this morning and she was going off saying the CF has an A+ rating for their charity work. And basically nothing to see here, Trump bad crap. So grateful to Bernie and sites like this that have awakened many of us and we can hear the truth and get the facts.

from last year http://nypost.com/2015/04/26/charity-watchdog-clinton-foundation-a-slush...

Charity Navigator, which rates nonprofits, recently refused to rate the Clinton Foundation because its “atypical business model . . . doesn’t meet our criteria.”

Charity Navigator put the foundation on its “watch list,” which warns potential donors about investing in problematic charities. The 23 charities on the list include the Rev. Al Sharpton’s troubled National Action Network, which is cited for failing to pay payroll taxes for several years.

The BBB doesn't approve of the foundation either

The Clinton's cherry pick facts or just out right lie. The foundation has been a money laundering and blackmail or at least pay-for-play machine. I'm re-posting this to compare them with Dr w/o borders

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Much if not most of the "public good" they have done has been accomplished by means of a quid pro quo system of trading access for cash, favors owed, influence, and the like. Almost nothing they do is done without some form of payback, or mutual exchange. This has often involved dealing with darkish alliances, ambitious middlemen, and less-than-honorable principals. No problem for Hill and Bill, as long as adequate cloaking has been assured.

The cloaking has always been progressive, compassionate humanism. The Clintons have always supported these ideals, and have in fact done a great deal to advance and promote them. I tend to think they are sincere in their beliefs, but rarely if ever do they act upon them without some form of personal or political payback.

This kind of upward power-trading is ancient, universal, and hardly unique to the Clintons - but they have been exceptionally adroit and successful at doing it. Hillary even more so than Bill, though of course they have always worked in tandem, which has been key to their effectiveness. Bill's affable charm serves as a perfect foil for Hillary's driving ambition and ability to scheme behind the scenes.

It's even more egregious than you thought. The AIDS program is not even part of the Clinton Foundation any more. It became a legally separate organization in 2010. Any Scooby-snacks related to AIDS work don't accrue to the separate Clinton Foundation.

You may recall that CHAI, the AIDS non-profit, was in the headlines last year for not disclosing its donors as promised by Honest Hil. Reference: The Chronicle of Philanthropy

is the reason her staff are desperate to keep her away from the public eye, let alone a press conference.

Given her sartorial choices, I'd love to know what she thinks is 'tasteful'.

4-8 years of HRC............ the WH will be have to be condemned.
