Portland Metro Area Meet Up 2/10/19
Cassiodorus will be visiting our area. We plan a meet up for Sunday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m. Cass wants to learn about area, potentially move here. The meetup is planned to be at food court at Clackamas Town Center.
Since Cassiodorus is willing to give a presentation on the topic of his book, tentatively titled Utopian Dreams and Climate Change, we would prefer a quieter location for meetup to make his presentation work better. Suggestions please from those in the area. Pizza places are often informal gathering spots for local ball teams and other groups. We want to be indoors with reasonable freeway access for our scattered selves.
If you are able to put Cass up for a night or two, please send him a private message. It will save him a long drive from Seattle area and give him a better opportunity to learn about the area. And fun for you.

I don't have a recommendation although a food court usually isn't all that quiet is it?
I try and stay out of Clackamyass
Surely there are better places for this that are close to freeway/thoroughfares access in the SE? Coffee shops, bars? After party sounds good! Hope you like Portland or Seattle Cassiodorus.
The goal is to use the settlement

I suggested Clackamas for weather purposes.
I personally prefer Cartlandia, but weather hasn't been great recently.
And I recently realized I hate bars.
Clackamas CAN be busy, but interestingly, it's been dwindling recently from what I've seen, but then I also tend to go during the week, so YMMV.

Usually enter Portland metro area at I-84 exit 17 in Troutdale or 205 exit 12 in Clackamas. Week-end traffic is similar for both routes. Looking forward to seeing old and new friends. Unfortunately no after party need to get back on the road and ready for winter conditions.

My route home is over one of the mountain passes. This time of year at least ice, often snow.
I am short of suggestions. Moved out of Portland in '86 and my knowledge of low cost local meet-up spaces accessible using local transit is way out of date.

Portland metro meetup place
An alternative to the Capitalistmas Town Center that has as good freeway access could be Mall 205, where SE Stark meets I-205. Unlike the busy and noisy Clackamas, this sorry "mall" is often empty and might have enough vacant space.
An alternative by the time of the meetup might be any Sears store, although such cavernous space might echo too much. And be locked up.
The Clackamas Town Center is an excellent example of how Oregon has been Californicated. The mall was built by a prominent Los Angeles shopping center developer named Ernest Hahn. My friend was his architect and he almost convinced Hahn to built this monster (on former farmland) like a medieval Roman village. Ha! Hahn coopted the idea by calling it a "town center" where no town existed. For the spillover traffic he built an addition called the Clackamas Promenade, where only a fool would "promenade" on a sunny Sunday with their sweetheart. Too many cars everywhere.
Avoid patronizing this place, a perfect example of capitalism run amuk, a neoliberal's dream commercial utopia.

I never have any money to spend at the mall anyway. Clackamas is just convenient on the bus.

I’d invite you all to my home for pizza and beer. There has got to be a little bar or restaurant with a set aside for small groups. I can’t envision a food court in a mall, but I might have the wrong vision. Hope you all have a nice time.
