Institutional Investor's Alpha magazine said its annual look at the earnings of the leading hedge fund managers showed the 25 best-paid collectively took home nearly $13 billion in income.

The top two fund managers were Kenneth Griffin of the Citadel firm and James Simons of Renaissance Technologies, both of whom earned $1.7 billion in 2015.

Aug. 3, 2015 10:38 p.m. ET... Citadel’s Ken Griffin Leaves 2008 Tumble Far Behind
Hedge-fund firm that nearly collapsed during the financial crisis is thriving again and expanding as aggressively as ever

On hedge-fund titan Kenneth Griffin’s 46th birthday last October, his firm paid former president Bill Clinton $250,000 to speak to investors and employees at the New York restaurant Daniel.

Citadel has a commodities operation that, as a stand-alone, would be one of the biggest commodities funds in the world. Its three-year-old effort to develop a new quantitative-trading arm, which uses complex mathematical formulas to pick investments, is approaching $3 billion under management and may soon be turned into a separate hedge fund.

More than 500 doomsday scenarios are constantly running, calculating how the portfolios would fare under a wide range of different upheavals, such as 1987’s “Black Monday” crash and the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Whenever the calculations show Citadel positions at risk of heavy losses if history repeats, red notices flash on trading screens across the organization. Source: Wall Street Journal

A bit deeper we find that Griffin is a main financial funder of Chicago Mayor Emmanuel... and one wonders about how shenanigans in Chicago's primary may have been rigged.

Citadel's billionaire owner, Kenneth C. Griffin, is accused of benefiting from a relationship with the mayor.

Mr. Emanuel’s single biggest donor, Mr. Griffin, 46, has given more than $1 million to political organizations that support the mayor. The bulk of that money — $950,000 — was donated in recent weeks after Mr. Emanuel failed to win majority support for a second term at the end of February.

Backing Mr. Emanuel, a former Democratic congressman and President Obama’s first White House chief of staff, may seem an unusual choice for Mr. Griffin... in 2012 Mr. Griffin said he considered himself a “Reagan Republican” and that he thought the rich have “insufficient influence” on the political process. : Wall Street Journal

In another headline, Citadel’s Ken Griffin Praises Wis. Gov. Scott Walker Bloomberg

Mayor Rahm Emanuel, [who supported Clinton in the Illinois primary], was at the investment bank Wasserstein Perella, where he worked for three years after leaving the Clinton White House. Daniel Widawsky, a former tax lawyer at Citadel, was appointed Chicago’s comptroller in 2013 by Mr. Emanuel.

Mr. Emanuel shut down 50 public schools in Chicago, polarizing some voters who said the move unfairly targeted low-income communities, Mr. Griffin argued that the mayor should have gone further. “The number should’ve been 125." NY Times

As Mr. Clinton’s former finance director, Mr. Emanuel held fundraisers for Ms. Clinton as early as 2014... Observer

In 2015, an investigation by The Guardian revealed the Chicago Police Department was running a secret interrogation and detention facility. In Homan Square, as the facility was called, Chicago police operated without any regard to basic constitutional rights. Those brought to Homan Square were rarely booked, rarely granted access to an attorney and often subjected to violent beatings by police officers.

More like....graft is on the move! When I was young, in the 1970s, we used to shake our heads when we talked about the banana republics. You could buy elections. You could buy government preference/protection. If charged with a serious crime, you could buy your freedom. Well, those old tin pot dictators would look at America 2016 with envy.

It seems as if almost everything in this country is for sale. The problem is that the majority of Americans don't seem all too disturbed by this. Even in sports, the lede is not who the player signed with, the story is the dollar amount of his contract. Perhaps we ARE the frog that has been slowly boiled. Maybe it's because those of the fact that you have to be over 50 years old to have actually lived in America at a time when we were (relatively speaking) a nation of laws. I would love for a sociologist or psychologist to explain just how we got to this point in (about) 40 short years.

And they never will be as long as television rules what passes for their brains. IF not captured by FAUX, people care more about which character is about to be killed on Game of Thrones than they do the looming disaster that is TPP.

I would love for a sociologist or psychologist to explain just how we got to this point in (about) 40 short years.

It actually took longer. Before Woodrow Wilson could drag us into WWI, he needed to sway the American People away from pacifistic isolationism "He kept us out of war" was his campaign slogan, remember. So he hires Edward Bernays to conduct the first modern American propaganda campaign, which due to the prostitution of the theories of Bernay's uncle Sigmund Freud, worked incredibly well in a radically short time.

Post-war, Bernays proceeded to create both the modern advertising industry, and public relations, both of which twist truth for the benefit of their customers and without which modern politics can't function. Television alone is filled with both, and wouldn't be nearly as profitable without the efforts of Bernays for Wilson in 1916.

Side note: Wilson would have fit right in with today's Democrats. He had no use for the common man either, believing that highly-degreed academics were better suited to rule than were mere mortals.

There are some Democrats who still are, but the vast majority have at least learned to STFU and keep their nasty opinions to themselves. (As regards African-Americans, at least - People of Color elsewhere are another matter altogether....)

NEO-LIBERALISM.

We have all been infected by the neo-liberal ideology, some to a greater extent than others. But the bottom line is that nearly every elected official in Washington got there because of the neo-liberals buying them off.

Alternet scooped me on some of this. Funny I never saw the article before. I realize that I am doing a lot of cut and paste. I think having the original source at hand is a helpful research tool for a future book and to secure the validity of the sources.

Last night, for example, I was doing research on Clinton's voting rights law suits and approval of racial profiling in Arkansas. I was able to document the Voting Rights violations law suits by the NAACP. But the racial profiling was more difficult. There was one law suit, but Clinton wasn't the defendant, the Arkansas State Police was. The basic reporting was done by a yellow journalist who hates all government officials on an equal basis... homosexual pedophile rings in the Bush and Reagan White House and such...

Ok... I woke up this morning and decided to connect Vulture Funds, the Clintons, the Democratic Party to the vulture fund economic disasters in Latin America. Unfortunately, I made it as far as Chicago before the essay became too intricate to continue in the same essay.

The interconnections are quite clear: we the people of the world are toys for vulture billionaire playground. The Clinton's aren't leaders, they are chess pieces in a giant game that has no rules except to extract as much profit from the people of the world as they can. Leaving behind a world of hunger, the homelessness, sickness and death. ,

Reagan was famous for stating 'I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Party left me.' And so the Democratic Party followed. And the GOP had no choice but to move even further to the right. Clinton, Obama, Clinton - they are all 'Reagan Democrats' - Union busting, wealth extracting, tax lowering, Social Security and Medicare robbing - Reagan Democrats.

Multi-mb. of documents! I picked a random one and ended up in Ecuador... big bankers embezzling hundreds of millions of dollars... crashes the local money so it is replaced by US Dollars (like Panama)... visa fraud... human smuggling... donations to the DNC... State refuses extradition... Menendez pulling strings... visa fraud solved by Clinton...

BTW, the Assange email leak is like close to 100 gigabytes in its encrypted form (its downloadable already, PassWord for later, security measures so it can't be taken down by NSA or whoever in place). That is speculated to be about 250,000 documents! This is going to take an army of dedicated researchers and a dedicated effort.

We may wonder, how did Good Ole' Rahm enter politics ? Did he run for school board, alderman or dog-catcher ? No, of course not. Rahm's political career began with his stint as a Bag-Man for the Clintons. Terry McAuliffe has a similar history. Mrs. Clinton will make history by becoming the first female president, but she will also be the first spouse of a former president to be elected. Future historians will have much to say about this, assuming that anyone still reads history, or writes it, in the future.

Gawd helps us. This country is beyond any help.

It's all about coool and history making.

Fraud. There is no election going on. Poll?? Whatever. The media and police are just there to keep us peasants bitching at each other and worrying our pretty little heads over such important issues like football, Kardashians and which cat litter is the best.

My only hope is that some civilized country liberates us. America is too dangerous. Stupid destroys. We are stupid and violent and the rest of the world won't tolerate what we sheeple have been accepting.

Dark times ahead but it might be better for the rest of the world and our planet if "something is done about America."
