Wikileaks New Hillary Leak: DNC manipulated news coverage on Nevada caucus

The WikiLeaks drip is starting.

Of course, we intuitively knew that the NV caucus and uproar about throwing chairs etc, was rigged. But we didn't have proof of the extent of the DNC manipulation until now.

From RT News:

One email indicates that the DNC was in close contact with news websites on articles related to the Democratic Party.

A Real Clear Politics article said that Bernie Sanders supporters causing a lack of unity at the Nevada Democratic Convention.

“This headline needs to be changed,” said Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who serves as Chairperson, or top official, of the DNC.

“We need to push back... Patrice, what happened, DNC had nothing to do with this, right?” Luis Miranda wrote, referring to DNC Director of Party Affairs Patrice Taylor.

Taylor responded saying that the article should be changed the event was run by the state party and the disorder “sounds like internal issues amount Sanders supporters.”

“Walter, please connect with Stewart and get him to push back,” Miranda wrote. The last email on the thread says: “Done. Article has been updated.”

This is brazen, stunning, direct manipulation of the Fourth Estate.

Brazen? Stunning? Hardly.... at least not to anyone on this site I assume.

The only people that might be surprised by this are the ones who think that words like "reporting" and "journalism" mean anything in today's America.

I work to convince my friends and family that media is wholly and completely unreliable and in this day & age there is simply no substitute for doing your own research. I point out that if the content is about anything political or anything financial then it is an absolute certainty they are being lied to. Typically they tell me I'm nuts so I ask them to drag out their favorite magazine or whatever and find a random political article then I point out the zillion and one errors and omissions in it and ask if they'd like to try again.

It's a laborious process but that's not particularly surprising. It was a laborious process for me to drag myself into the really real world.

We should NOT add that extra point you suggested. We want to emphasize the opposite, which is that we set up these committees with both campaigns early – albeit it one of the campaigns hasn’t used theirs – precisely because we need to raise the resources NOW to have the infrastructure in place for the general election. Thanks for the info. Although it seems to me more as though the insanity messing with policy, politicians and the elections is just being revealed...

Noticed this, from the 'update 2' link given (below), thereby making it obvious that there was something else going on on top of what is specified in this email. Why else would they be expecting Hillary to outperform the polling and for there to be a concern about complaints being made and a pretense made even of establishing, presumably for deniability purposes, (see? We didn't like it either. snicker) a record of an inquiry made by the Hillary campaign 'even though she's one of ours'?

If she outperforms this polling, the Bernie camp will go nuts and allege misconduct. They'll probably complain regardless, actually. with "contracts" you probably need a PhD to go through, unless you're a marquee name (where you don't even bother your own beautiful mind about such trivialities as "contracts"--that's what agents are for these days, is my understanding, but that's for another day...)

It's practically servitude if you work in the newsroom. The unspoken message is "do what you're told and don't make waves". Or even "Write it this way or else you're fired".

Maybe now this makes clearer that the Circuit Court (I forget which one) decision in Akre/Wilson vs New World Communications (that I'm always on about) set the precedent for the corporate power structure in the USA to be able to employ "reporters" to serve their bidding, under the guise of "Employment Law". In other words, journos will do what they're told to do, and write what they're told to write, or they can find another job. Oh, and don't you dare talk about it. You can't blow the whistle on liars upstairs, when their reporters are ordered to alter the news copy to suit the subject's needs even when the edit turns it into a lie.

Because read those emails! Those people all act like reviewing and making changes together--the reporter editing along with the actual subject--constitutes actual journalism. It absolutely does no such thing. Every last one of those on-air people and all the staff that writes their copy, that are taking money to lie to the public, are shameful and disgusting, un-American whores. What journos in America ought to do--assuming any of them give a damn--is start blowing the whistles out loud in tandem.

Somebody better do something (more on that in a minute). Because there it is, right there in the emails. Unless these emails are also made up bullshit, this is what they did: They helped to shape opinion by lying to the public, in collusion with "television network and print media anchors and staff", and then they covered it up. They lied to the public they're supposed to serve.

Stuff we can do: flash mobs? That popped into my head on the cruise home. Gathering to do what, I haven't worked out yet. But we can't even plan it online, you know damn well the eyeballs are keeping an eye out...

The DNC has been corrupted. This is just proof of what we've been saying all along: the power brokers of the DNC are nothing but craven, power hungry assholes. I thank WikiLeaks for doing this -- there's never too much sunlight in government.

What other goodies are hiding in these pages? I can't wait for someone to rip into this shit and let us all know. Smile It's hard for me to gracious right now, you'll have to excuse me. I'm enjoying this a little bit.

The RNC convention was a total shitshow, and I'm sure the DNC convention will be a shitshow in its very own way. Unity is just not happening, across the board. I wonder which loser Hillary Clinton will choose for VP: Tim Kaine or Tom Vilsack? Ugh or double ugh, that is the question.. If she picks somebody even remotely progressive (like Tom Perez), I will be shocked. I just did a search on Perez's name and it looks like there are scandals around the corner for Perez, so he's probably out of the question now.

I wonder what Bernie is gonna say about this. Huh. Thanks for the article, vl!

It's a whole slew of negative comments about Sanders after Nevada

The Daily 202: Liberal allies turning on Bernie Sanders after Nevada donnybrook

Sanders supporters at the Nevada State Democratic Party convention in Las Vegas on Saturday. (Chase Stevens/AP) -- The comments came at the end of a long day, during which Nevada’s Democratic Party filed a formal complaint accusing Sanders of inciting “actual violence” among his supporters at last weekend’s state convention. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called the convention fracas a "test of leadership

.” Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz told CNN that Sanders's response to the chaos has been "anything but acceptable.

" The Vermonter dismissed the claims as “nonsense,” detailing grievances about how Nevada and other states have handled their delegate selection processes. “At that convention, the Democratic leadership used its power to prevent a fair and transparent process from taking place,” Sanders said, casting the episode as just the latest episode of the national party trying to silence the grassroots. -- There are growing fears that the July convention in Philadelphia could be chaotic, perhaps even violent. -- Sanders is quickly becoming a figure every bit as divisive and polarizing among Senate Democrats as Ted Cruz is in the eyes of his Republican colleagues. He may not have forced a government shutdown, but his obstinacy may yet imperil HRC. His defiance is burning bridges, which will make it harder for him to be an effective member of the Senate going forward. -- We’ve reached another pivot point in the race. The donnybrook at the convention has been a wake-up call for many liberal commentators, who have viewed Bernie positively because of his success at pulling Hillary to the left. But a new mindset has begun to take hold: If Trump becomes president, Sanders will deserve a big share of the blame. Take this sampling of commentary that posted overnight:

The New Republic’s Dana Houle : “It is Sanders’s prerogative to remain in the race. But exercising that prerogative makes it easier for mega-wealthy conservatives to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to lethally bludgeon both Clinton’s candidacy and the progressive agenda to which Sanders has devoted his career. This is not solely about combating the grave threat of a Trump presidency. It is also about the potential of a Democratic landslide and the progressive achievements that could follow, which is an opportunity too rare and precious to squander … The best way for Sanders to advance the progressive cause is to end his campaign and unabashedly ask his supporters to join him in helping to elect Clinton.”

Talking Points Memo’s Josh Marshall : “Sanders is telling his supporters that he can still win, which he can't. He's suggesting that the win is being stolen by a corrupt establishment, an impression which will be validated when his phony prediction turns out not to be true. Lying like this sets you up for stuff like happened over the weekend in Nevada.”

Mother Jones’ Kevin Drum: “Before this campaign, [Sanders] was a gadfly, he was a critic of the system, and he was a man of strong principles. He still is, but he's also obviously very, very bitter … By all objective measures he did way better than anyone expected and had far more influence than anyone thought he would, and he should feel good about that. Instead, he seems more angry and resentful with every passing day.”

The Atlantic’s Clare Foran : “As the Sanders campaign presses forward, it must carefully consider whether the senator’s ambition for a political revolution is a goal best achieved by actively stoking the anger of his supporters—and, in a sense, encouraging them to tear it all down.”

Vox’s Jeff Stein : “Sanders needed to win Kentucky to maintain an increasingly far-fetched path to the Democratic nomination. The fact that he lost — albeit by what appears to have been a very small margin — will only dramatically increase the calls for him to exit the race.”

In something like MBOX or PST format?

I can do a lot of cool stuff with this dataset with my tools at work. I already talked to a PM here, and she was interested. I'm pretty sure I can get my bosses to sign off on the idea as well, selling it as a sample dataset for examples and training and whatnot - most e-discovery platforms already use the old Enron dataset for that, this would be just be a much more up-to-date example.

I want to run this through Nuix e-discovery software (think metadata mining) and then load it into a database platform that will let me do a lot of tricky, cool things to it.

Displaying all the the e-mail threads in order, while removing duplicates in the chain (lessens duplicate e-mail review); and also apply conceptual analytics against the dataset (think instead of searching based on dt-search index type keywords, but grouping documents together based on concepts within the words of the documents) - this lets me then apply clustering of those concepts together to bring like-minded e-mails and documents together for review.

I wouldn't be able to let anyone have access to the database, but could definitely get away sharing screenshots of the cluster groups and e-mail threads - it would help people show where and what to search against to find the same documents....

Anyone, bueller? I couldn't find any sort of download link on the wikileaks site as of yet....

Side note: is that a handy way to keep money that's over limit? Or do you suppose to tribe sent a note saying they wanted to donate to the building fund?

Emphasis mine, of course.

Look at the second batch of bolded text I posted above.

Can a political party receive a donation in excess of the limit, and just put it in a different fund?

I'm assuming the limit is $100,200 for these groups since that's the exact amount donated by the other listed groups, and it's the amount limited by the guy who got called a dick.

Hi,

Someone else can confirm, but DWS email seems to be hrtsleeve@gmail.com if you search on hrtsleeve you find emails signed DWS.

One presumes by this point she is no longer using that email address.

PS: I assume the email address implies she "wears her heart on her sleeve" Puh Leeeze!

I went to the SOB (Site of Betrayal), to see what's being said about this. In the one thread on the rec list, something doesn't compute. Wait Bernie people were banned for pointing out rigged elections. Bernie people are electing Trump. Bernie beats Trump in polls. No error error smoking error error does not compute.

Beware the bullshit factories.

It sounds like they've heard reports about closing polling stations through a Twitter account -- believe it's actor Tim Robbins -- and that they want to seek clarification from the Rhode Island Governor, a Clinton supporter, so that they can be on the same page.

If they need to ask for an explanation, that doesn't suggest coordination on the poll closures -- only with respect to their messaging about why poll stations are being closed.

On balance, however, the e-mails confirm what everyone knew -- that the DNC saw themselves as an extension of the Clinton campaign, and that beating Bernie was part of that mission.

I'm glad that I haven't given money in years to the DNC too, because it sounds like donor information was also compromised -- something that the DNC claimed had NOT happened.

I only posted about 1 donor, but I've found more. Their employers are listed too.

I completely understand wikileaks wanting to release these emails and am grateful, but, like the identities of informants that have been released in the past, personal information (including IP addresses, browsers, addresses, and full names) should not be released.

It puts them at risk of all sorts of things, and I'm not cool with that - I don't care who they support.

OTOH, they should never have been in emails to start with.

If you're more grateful than concerned, perhaps try not to do the enemy's work for them? Why not let THEM find the information and make a stink about it? I'm sure they'll notice, and try to use it to discredit all the emails Because Wikileaks Don't Care 'Bout Nobody's Business.

No, for crying out loud, they just exposed proof of MASSIVE FRAUD AND COLLUSION with the American "media".

Cool, then post it. See what types of idiots show up at your door. Hopefully they're just a little nutty and not rapists, murders, arsonists.

Thing is, if you post it, that's on you, and hopefully no one near you gets hurt or killed or ripped off because of it.

If I posted your information, I'd be liable for any harm you, or anyone near you incurred.

The first person I found made a $5 donation. Everyone whose info shows up in the leak should sue everyone involved.

It's foolish and dangerous to put private citizens' personal information online. But I can see we disagree on that.

As stated above, the information should never have been passed around in emails.

Sensitive donor information should NEVER be included in an email. EVER.

That's on the DNC -- not the donor, and not Wikileaks. In fact, we should be grateful to WL for showing the DNC's incompetence (once again).

I stated

As stated above, the information should never have been passed around in emails.

Never, ever should've been in any emails (and lots of people are included in the email loop). But they were.

I just hope nothing horrible happens to these people. I consider them koolaid drinkers, but not "the enemy" and I don't think they deserve to be hurt because they drank the damn koolaid.

I don't agree that WL isn't partially liable. Other emails appear to have been wiped, because there's obviously stuff missing. They could have done the same for personally identifiable information on private citizens. Lord knows they've had the emails long enough - at least most of them.

It's enough to simply demonstrate that the DNC was lying about donor data being secure. However, the information has no other public interest. It should have been scrubbed.

DNC rather more than supports Hillary, being willing to cheat for her - they obviously have no problem than Hillary does with hazarding the security of other people/the nation.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
