Why is moving the Overton Window not mentioned in 2016 election autopsies?

So, there is another major essay trying to understand and explain Trump's victory. In case you haven't seen mention of it yet, I am referring to The Nationalist's Delusion, by The Atlantic's senior political editor, Adam Serwer. It is an excellent, though lengthy read, which reaches the usual conclusion: white Americans are bigoted.

Republicans on House Armed Services Committee express their hatred of transgender people

Yesterday I warned that the House Armed Services Committee was going to take up the issue of open service by transgender people in the military.

Republicans railed against the Pentagon’s transgender policy on Wednesday, but ultimately did not move to reverse the policy during a debate on the annual defense policy bill.

But there was plenty of bigotry expressed.

What would you do?

Just watched a couple hundred people in downtown Portland, Oregon stand in silence for the two men who gave their lives to protect two innocent young ladies from ghastly racial taunts last Friday.
It was both a powerful and profound moment.
There were people from all walks of life, all colors, all ages, gathered there with no sound. At first, I thought the volume was turned down on my tv, but it was live.
The soulful realization came over me that bigotry can never win.

They're calling it a "Free Speech Bus." By "they,' I mean The National Organization for Marriage, the International Organization for the Family, and a new hate group called CitizenGO. The latter is a Madrid-based organization with ties to the Church. The leading figure in all these organization is, of course, Brian S. Brown.
