Greg Palast: "The Election was stolen" If so, what now?

Last week we learned about Palast's new documentary,

Heh. We watched it for free and liked it so much sent him some money anyway.

In the doc he makes the case for how oligarchs have colluded with their toadies in state gov to exclude people from voting using a program called 'Crosscheck.' states can subscribe, and use voter rolls in one state to compare with their own. Same name in both, different address, no vote. The catch is they leave out the middle names. And they include names that tend to be mainly poc.

This week Palast is saying that the election was stolen, in more ways than one:

Here's a snippet from Palast's article published since the election:

http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/election-was-stolen-%E2%80%93-here%E2%...

Editor’s note: I interviewed Palast before the election, when he warned that Trump operatives were conspiring to steal it by purging 7.2 million minority voters off voting roles in key swing states. Now Palast has evidence that Trump’s winning margin in these states was far less than the number of voters wrongly removed by software called “Crosscheck.” It purported to remove duplicate voters with common minority names, even when middle names were different, denying millions of Latinos, blacks and Asians their right to vote. The mastermind behind Crosscheck is Kris Kobach, now head of Trump’s immigration policies transition team. If you believe this election should be investigated, send this story to your elected officials or party leaders. You can also Support The Palast Investigative Fund. E

Fund and keep our work alive.

November 12, 2016 -- Before a single vote was cast, the election was fixed by GOP and Trump operatives.

Starting in 2013 – just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act – a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP–controlled states.

The system, called Crosscheck, is detailed in my Rolling Stone report,

“The GOP’s Stealth War on Voters,” 8/24/2016.

Crosscheck in action:

Trump victory margin in Michigan: 13,107

Michigan Crosscheck purge list: 449,922

Trump victory margin in Arizona: 85,257

Arizona Crosscheck purge list: 270,824

Trump victory margin in North Carolina: 177,008

North Carolina Crosscheck purge list: 589,393

On Tuesday, we saw Crosscheck elect a Republican Senate and as President, Donald Trump. The electoral putsch was aided by nine other methods of attacking the right to vote of Black, Latino and Asian-American voters, methods detailed in my book and film, including “Caging,” “purging,” blocking legitimate registrations, and wrongly shunting millions to “provisional” ballots that will never be counted.

Trump signaled the use of “Crosscheck” when he claimed the election is “rigged” because “people are voting many, many times.” His operative Kobach, who also advised Trump on building a wall on the southern border, devised a list of 7.2 million “potential” double voters—1.1 million of which were removed from the voter rolls by Tuesday. The list is loaded overwhelmingly with voters of color and the poor. Here's a sample of the list:

Exit Polls Tell the Tale of Who Won

Palast goes on to discuss how the State Department uses Exit Polls to test election results in other countries, and here exit polls showed that Clinton won and that sure enough the stats show how that the Repubs and Trump operatives made the difference.

Pushing Back

Hundreds have been rallying and protesting across the country at the election of Trump.

3,645,611 supporters have signed the Change.org petition as of this writing and god help us if they successfully get electors to change their votes and vote to elect Hillary. Can you image the shitstorm that will ignite. Probably ain't going to happen.

Snopes says it is possible, but would be most unusual if it happens.

http://www.snopes.com/2016/11/11/the-electoral-college-and-the-popular-v...

The Electoral College and the Popular Vote
It's theoretically possible that the Electoral College could upend the results of the 2016 presidential election, but such an event would be unprecedented.

I have not signed it yet, but I might just to help people get to the point of looking more closely to changing the electoral college.

Here's the petition text:

Electoral College: Make Hillary Clinton President on December 19
elijah berg NC

On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine - which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!

We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.

Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.

Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump "won" is because of the Electoral College.

But the Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?

SHE WON THE POPULAR VOTE.

There is no reason Trump should be President.

"It's the 'People's Will'"

No. She won the popular vote.

"Our system of government under our Constitution says he wins"

No. Our Constitution says the Electors choose.

"Too many states prohibit 'Faithless Electors'"

24 states bind electors. If electors vote against their party, they usually pay a fine. And people get mad. But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states.

PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE!

This petition will be delivered to:

Electoral College Electors

I voted for Jill Stein the last two Presidential elections, and I cringe at the idea of Hillary as President.

However one thing I read today just made me sick to contemplate:

http://www.pnhp.org/news/2016/november/health-care-in-the-age-of-trump

Even more ominously, Republicans now control both the executive and legislative branches, giving them the chance to remold the nation’s health care system into something both uglier and more lucrative for the nation’s corporate health care interests (Pharma stocks soared the day after the election).

For those of us who predicted (and hoped) that the coming health care divide would be between centrist-liberal and left-progressive visions, this election constitutes a complete upheaval in the political landscape of health reform.

Some important questions arise. What might Republicans have in store for health care? What will the politics of health care reform look like going forward? And how can we keep the dream for single-payer alive?

Trump said he would repeal ACA but has backed off somewhat, said he would protect Social Security and Medicare, but will he really resist some Grand Bargain shit that Ryan concocts during the first days of next session?

Cannot believe a damn thing he says of course.

Hope that the Historian who predicted Trump would win is right, and that he will be impeached.

Historian who predicted Trump's win says he'll be impeached
By Brooke Seipel - 11/11/16 02:36 PM EST

But would he be impeached in time to prevent him helping the Republicans do all manner of harm?

Of course if Clinton was put in by the electors and if a civil war did not then result , she too, would probably be impeached or be exposed to being coerced to going along with the Republicans. Not that it would take much, since she is a Republican at heart.

were switching Trump votes to HRC?

Palast has been talking about Crossccheck for at least a year now. Republicans have been overtly suppressing the vote for decades. The Democrats do it more covertly as in switching voter registrations.and limiting polling places in places they risk losing. Neither party is honest.

HRC would need no coercion to "go along" with the Republicans. She is one.

why aren't the Dems and Clintons vociferously complaining? The republicans and Trump would certainly be complaining if it was the other way around. I just read another article showing how Clinton may have won the popular vote, after recounts particularly in CA, by as much as 2 million. And that only three times in US history has the winner of the popular vote lost the election prior to 2000 and now it's happened 2 out of the last 5 elections, both favoring republican candidates.
Pretty strange.

remember 2000. It can be anywhere from just the way the system works to a coordinated conspiracy. Many felt Gore backed off because Bush was "supposed" to win, the deciders decided it would be Bush. Extend that to now, many feel the deciders decided Clinton just wouldn't work out as planned and went with Trump. Therefore it really is out of our hands, more than we even realize and both parties at the highest levels play the same game so they accept the results with pushing it.

6-7 years ago and admitted that the parties take turns being in charge.
That was obvious when the republicans had risen from the grave by the next election after everyone said that they wouldn't be back in power for decades.
And a year before the election people were saying that the democrats were going to lose seats. How could anyone know that?
Then there's the democrats sitting bye while their constituents stand in line for 8-10 hours because there aren't enough machines and this has been happening for decades. I would think if they wanted to win they'd get more machines.
The democrats never fight for anything. The above, blocking bad bills the way the republicans do.
But the biggest proof was watching Gore sit there with a bored expression on his face after senator after senator got up and spoke about vote fraud.
And after DWS lost so many seats and governorships she got to keep her job.
That tells me that Obama wasn't displeased by the results.
If the democrats won both houses then they would have to pass legislation.
Can't have that, can we?

about it a year ago?

One thing we've learned over the last 20 years is that you're never going to overturn the result of any done-deal election by trying to prove voter suppression after the fact. How could the DNC have failed to obtain the necessary injunctions to prevent this stuff -- and even to get those registrations restored? How is it that there seems to simply be no legal recourse for people who are denied this most fundamental civil right?

From the outside it just invariably seems as if they are playing their own game, with its own rules, amongst themselves, and leaving us to scratch our heads on the sidelines, trying to figure out how to get the referees' attention.

Why didn't Bernie do anything when he saw all the voting fraud while it was happening?
From people being kicked off voting roll, partly affiliations change, but only for people who were going to vote for him.
The Nevada caucus fiasco where it was obvious they cheated.
Bill going to four state's voting places and Hillary going to some too.
The fact that he and his campaign stayed silent is very telling, IMO.
When people don't get to vote because of the shenanigans of many people, then democracy is dead in this country.
Or has it ever been alive?
Hillary cheated Bernie and possibly Trump cheated her.
I'm stuck with my thought process. I didn't want Hillary to win, but I didn't want Trump to win either.

I assume the Dems have their own version of Crosscheck with access to state databases they control.

In fact, the Brooklyn primary is pretty clear evidence that the Dems in New York state at least are also able to do a read/write on registrations they deem unsuitable.

Not saying either is better mind you.

The voter registration databases should be read-only to any but a few select people on the elections board who are solely responsible for the content, and anyone caught tampering with the data should face stiff, criminal penalties.

You don't get any more corrupt that state party bosses rigging the voter rolls in their favor, and if THAT isn't both illegal and unconstitutional, then what the hell is?

Looking at his Wiki he has quite a history of investigative reporting that is impressive to me. Would be surprised if this is some kind of a cover for the Dems.

And, frankly, from what I can find, in selected battleground states the suppression might well have made the difference for Trump. Of course if turnout had been higher.....

On Election Day, WikiLeaks released part 35 of their series of leaks from Clinton campaign chair John Podesta’s emails.

Democrats have been depending on their spin machine to divert attention from the WikiLeaks revelations. Russian conspiracies, vague claims of fabricated emails without proving one single release has been fake, and claiming the content of the emails are benign without reading them have been the most frequently used damage control tactics attempted by Clinton partisans.

The Podesta emails have provided further evidence the Clinton campaign rigged the Democratic primaries for Hillary Clinton with the help of “neutral” Democratic National Committee (DNC) staff and “autonomous” mainstream media outlets that coordinated together behind the scenes.

The emails revealed the Clinton campaign lied about how early they started her campaign while the Clintons continued the highly-paid speech circuit.

Chelsea Clinton was exposed as having used the Clinton Foundation as a personal checking account, while her husband used it to find investors for his hedge fund.

It was revealed that Bill Clinton used the Clinton Foundation as a means to make the Clintons rich and he exchanged political favors with Ukrainian billionaire Victor Pinchuk for Clinton Foundation donations.

Hillary Clinton has been proven to be as inauthentic and scripted as her critics initially claimed, with her campaign staff often debating in released emails what Clinton should say and what her policies should be without the candidate making any actual input. Clinton’s highly paid PR consultant Mandy Grunwald called her “cronyistic” and said that she hasn’t driven a car in 35 years and has flown all over the world but accomplished nothing.

It faces numerous lawsuits – one of which will see Mr Trump take the witness stand in coming weeks – and argues that Mr Trump’s behaviour laid out in those lawsuits could be grounds for lawmakers to impeach their new President.

At the very least, the problems will cast a shadow over Mr Trump’s status as President-elect and then as President, Professor Peterson says.

“In the United States, it is illegal for businesses to use false statements to convince consumers to purchase their services,” explained Peterson. “The evidence indicates that Trump University used a systemic pattern of fraudulent representations to trick thousands of families into investing in a program that can be argued was a sham. Fraud and racketeering are serious crimes that legally rise to the level of impeachable acts.”

Actually having Donald Trump impeached requires a whole new set of processes. Public opinion and that of lawmakers must turn against the president, since the proceedings must begin with the House of Representatives.

Crosscheck may indeed have improperly kicked some voters off the rolls but as a person born in Michigan, lived in several other states, and currently lives in Arizona, I know that people move around and fail to cancel their old registrations. I also know that quite a few people spend summers in Michigan and winters in Arizona. They're called snowbirds. It wouldn't surprise me if some of them, Democrats and Republicans, were registered to vote in both places, and that that is true of other North-South part-time residents.

In addition, there's little proof that Crosscheck only affects Democrats. It likely catches Republicans and independents, too. And as we saw in the Democratic primary, Democrats are no slouches at disenfranchising those that threatened Hillary's Coronation, so it's possible they suppressed Republican and independent votes in the general election.

It was a plot, according to Palast, to kick minority voters, who are overwhelmingly Democrats, off the voter rolls.

suppressed....independent votes in the general election.

I'm not worried about GOP votes, only cuz they won by mostly huge margins. But those "official" totals for Johnson and Stein? I've been calling bullshit on those since Wednesday....

We know Bernie Sanders votes were suppressed and thrown out so Clinton could win the primary. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Stein voters were treated in the same way in order to grease the skids for the Coronation.

to increase The Shill's totals at Jill's expense. We know they could do that, we know they would. It's not a giant step to think they did.

very credible that Crosscheck successfully purged voters. Why?

Because the snowbirds were the generation most likely to vote for Her Royal Heinous. They are also the ones who kept putting Arpaio in office year after year after year.

This year Arpaio finally lost and Trump took the state.

I've also posited that it simply had to do with the weather; it's been miserably hot here for far longer than usual and I'm betting many snowbirds delayed their migration this year, denying Arpaio his core constituency. But at this point I'd also be willing to believe that Arpaio was screwed inadvertently by those trying to deny HRH a win.

the machinery put in by the Clinton Campaign to stop Bernie Sanders winning the primary backfired in the general election. If you'll recall, there were a lot of irregularities surrounding the primary voting. I feel Bernie may have done better than the official results.

And though that's interesting annecdotal data what you say about the movement of people and all, have to ask, did you watch Palast's documentary? Sorry, but I think I will stick with his creds as a kick ass investigative journalist and his assessment of Crosscheck after extensive multi-state research, and that of the people affected that he interviewed.

don't we end up with Pence in charge, at least for a time? If so, I hope he never gets impeached or assassinated.
