And Now A Word FOR Our Sponsors

So after my diary [Blog?] post last night, and reading through the comments, and now after seeing posted traffic numbers here go from Coffee Shop to OMFG! in one month, it brings it home that there's a shitload of GOS refugees migrating over here.

So, firstly, I thank our hosts for putting up with a sudden steady and what has to be a disruptive stream of what must come across as the Internet equivalent of, "Hi, my name is Thumb - 'Hi Thumb!' - and I was a Kossack for 12 years... and it's been almost a full day now since logging in... and... and screw that place... and... I'm still a little shaky..."

Seeing so many fellow refugees and recovering Kossaholics has been refreshing, as so many of us have made the migration to this oasis where we can speak freely and vent our spleen and try to return to some level or political normalcy among non-pod-people while we keep up the Good Fight.

Yea us!

And now we need to stop for a moment and reflect on what we're doing to the infrastructure of a site that was probably not prepared for such a mass migration. I don't see any ads here, so we can assume the only revenue stream to keep the walls from falling in under our weight is the donate button in the top right corner. Today I used it for the first time.

$10 to our hosts for being here and so graciously putting up with our overrunning the place and bitching about our crazy ex. Another $10 for seeing big names like OPOL, LaFeminista, and mahakali overdrive, among others that I so look up to for helping me feel home away from home. Another $10 in the hopes that LieparDestin moves his BNR here (just do it!) and another $10 in the hopes that anyone reading this who also considers themselves refugees of the GOS to also kick in whatever they can. $40 seems a small price to pay. All things considered, I'm getting a bargain.

So come on people, these carpets aren't going to clean themselves. It's the least we can do after trampling in like a herd of wounded buffalo.

it's 'herd', but point taken. Payday's coming and Bernie AND this site will get some love.
And thanks for throwing the welcome mat out for us.

A. If you mix earth, wind, and fire in the proper ratio, season to taste, and then bake at 350 deg. F., do unicorns start playing rhythm and blues?

B. If roses are red, and violets are blue, if trump is elected, who can we sue?

C. Dogs or cats? Explain.

D. In one enclosed box there are 80 red balls and 20 green balls. In another box, there are 20 red balls and 80 green balls. Which box is heavier?

A. No - though perhaps a waltz
B. Surprise me
C. Cats - I rent
D. 80 red balls - Iron (red oxide) should be heavier than green (copper oxide) - paint has weight. I could be wrong, though. I bet Translator would have known the answer.

Stay on track. Stay in lane. Don't throw rocks.

much appreciated. Yep, donations are our only source of income, we want to keep the site as clean as possible, no ads. We've already migrated to larger servers twice in the last month and if things keep going the way they are, we may be looking at another upgrade.

it's gonna get to the point where whoever writes an essay is going to want one of your puzzles in it.

donations to Bernie Sanders and Tim Canova (as promised in my response to that transparent DNC "survey" with Wasserman Schultz's name on it). You get a chunk of treat-myself money, because this is a treat, a refuge--the safe and calm other side of a sturdy door closed against a howling gale and ravening wolves. Smile

This is such a thoughtful and restful place. Even the energetically discussed topics have a welcome respectful back and forth, in the absence of downvoting and flags and banning. It's like an impromptu university dorm discussion instead of a preschool sandbox fight. A place where we treat one another as adults. Heaven!

Those at Current were not happy with those who came to them after HufPo started bashing Obama and made a sharp right turn. They had their little clique and that's what they wanted; Status Quo. The owners tried to make the site grow with the influx of new members, but those who came before, made it very clear outsiders were not welcome. Current is no more.
The major reason I left HufPo before the mass exodus was the unannounced censorship. Comments which were approved started disappearing and eventually anything negative about HRC never made the comments.
I thank Thumb for raising the issue of extra costs incurred and the necessity of donating if you can. I did and am prepared to do so again.
TOS has lost its integrity. Many people are writing comments which ensure a time out or banning. Kos has taken to writing daily about the failings of Bernie. Unfortunately for him, he is not skilled enough to be Front Page and he is only preaching to those who support HRC as they are the only ones left. Except for the Berners there starting trouble. Good Job!
I was one of those who purchased a lifetime membership and unfortunately, it's impossible to get your name off the rolls. This way the membership always grows.
This will be the last I have to say about the site. It has lost any form of integrity and will never recover as it was once perceived to be.
