Friday Night Photos Auto Art Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

For most of us our cars are nothing more than a means of transportation. Something to get us from point A to point B. For a few people though, their car is more than just transportation, it's a treasured piece of art created on a metal canvas.

These pieces of art were on display at the Good Guys car show last weekend at the Del Mar fairgrounds.

I would agree the lines, curves, fins, grills and lights of the older models
are a work of art. In the mid 30's thru the early 60's accoutrements where
statements by the designers to define classy chassis's. Eye candy for me.

Thanks for sharing your wheelies!

Most of the cars these days remind me of a bag of jelly beans. They all look the same except for the color.

55 Ford and Buick with huge steering wheels. I think dad had a convertible that you had to manually pull the top down.

Today I pushed a button and it neatly retracted into the back.

Found on the internet.

I have walked by this tree for over a decade and finally really looked at it.

I call him Mr. Grump. Or Jabba the Trunk? It’s why I never get bored walking there day after day because I see something new each time. It’s springing into spring and the daffodils are out all over and soon the lilacs will bloom and oh the lovely smell. Cherry and dawgwood trees are full of blossoms. My grandma used to sing this song.

I looked out the window and what did I see ?Popcorn popping on the apricot tree.

I’m sure that it had more versions, but that’s all I remember.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

I use to have a 72 Fiat convertible that you had to manually raise and lower the top.
Jabba the Trunk is a perfect title for your tree photo.

I’m one of the practical ones, although I certainly enjoy looking at all the beautiful curves and features on those cars. The colours and materials are also fine. Thank you.

For a current boxy one, I found this one online, which I find quite a nice design …

Some cars you can’t help but notice. I’m not certain whether this was a car I saw on the road the other day, but if not it was a similar one ...

but gas is to expensive so I drive a hybrid. At $58,000 for their cheapest model, Lexus sure thinks a lot about their cars.

I drive a very inexpensive, boring 2014 toyota hybrid, bought second-hand 5 years ago. I miss my older toyota 4 wheel drive.

Glad you enjoyed Natalie!

The heavy wet came with heavy winds. It knocked my heavy planter with plumeria right over. I'll pick it up in the morning when the wind is supposed to mellow.

According to google images it is Coprinopsis lagopus - a fungi.

All the best

Hi all, Hey SP!

Outstanding auto art amigo! Great vehicles, I have a soft spot for them too... I bet they sound good too. And yeah, I can't tell the new ones apart. What do you do when you fly somewhere and rent one? Put an air tag in it? The fairgrounds looks just like I remember it! Smile

Here are a couple fav car songs that came to mind... have this vinyl...

@dystopian at the university student center in 1971, their opening act for Tom Petty, until about 2010, when the drummer testified on behalf of my client at a trial in San Jacinto County, Texas, in a child custody case.
As he swore in, I faked a cough, aw haw haw haw haw. Couldn't resist. The judge, clerk, baliff, court reporter, and the drummer had a good laugh. Instead of being held in contempt of court, my client won.

@Socialprogressive I mostly don't like modern music, with the notable and admittedly-ironic exception of Weird Al Yankovic, but over time I've learned to acquire tastes for some individual things (mostly "classic rock", it would seem) - and I cannot fault "hair metal" for their sense of style, nor "heavy metal"/"prog-rock" for their album-art!

I like what you did there with the cranberry-coloured Chevy truck, by changing the background to B&W to highlight its great colour and shape. It shows it in an authentic context, palm trees and all. Could be a movie scene.

@janis b
The technique is known as selective coloring. It was a popular fad for about five minutes a dozen years ago when it was first introduced. For some unknown reason it quickly got the reputation as a cheap editing parlor trick and in less time than it took to gain popularity the fad died. I'll use it on rare occasions when the subject benefits from being isolated from a busy or distracting background.

@Socialprogressive Consul Capri. RHD, gutless guts swapped for a sportier poked high compression 2.0 and T9 five speed. Good fun learning unfamiliar 5 speed patterns with your left hand. Not too many in these parts. Just about everyone who sees it has never seen one before. I put the front bumper on right after it arrived. I did encounter a very unusual Fiat (850?) in a parking lot a while back, unfortunately I wasnt in the Capri at the time.

With more HP and a 5spd it sounds like a fun car to drive. I've never had the experience of driving a RHD vehicle. I did see two RHD Chevy P/U trucks at the car show.

@Socialprogressive The first time I took it onto the freeway I nearly drove under a big truck I couldnt see. You just cant easily see what you need to the way our roadways work. Partially because that vehicle is just cursed for side mirror utility, but mostly because youre on the wrong side of the car!
Which makes for many conversations in stopped traffic with the driver in the next lane. Once you get the hang of it, it is quite natural, but that was a very scary lesson in what the difference is.
