Friday Night Photos Spring Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

It's Spring. That means the days are getting longer. The temperatures are getting warmer. The trees are turning green. The flowers are blooming and mattresses are one sale. The return of Spring also brings with it the annual butterfly exhibit at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

I always wondered why they call them Butter.......?
Do they like butter?
I myself like butter, the taste of it, but not exactly the look of it.
I guess I can Wiki it.
Haven't seen any of them yet here in the PNW. Lots of birds though. Our Hummingbird feeder is a busy place.
And the rabbits are out and about.
Our milkweed got really big last year, but hasn't come up yet.
Thanks for the pics and photo night.

@earthling1
Very good question. Why do they call them butterflies?
I'm like you, I like the taste of butter. Unfortunately my gut doesn't like butter so it's not in my diet, which is a bummer. We have Cottontails around here. I haven't seen one in the yard in a while, but I see their droppings a lot.

I woke up this morning determined to drink less, eat right, and exercise.
But that was four hours ago when I was younger and full of hope.

@QMS
They do flutter bye, don't they?
The pearl white, black and gold on the unknown works well together. I think of it as Pearl Luster.

Sensational photos, what beautiful collisions of colour and pattern.

I looked through the archives for my Monarch photos and on the way found this image that reminded me of butterfly wings and patterns, even though they lack colour and flight.

Enjoy the weekend all

Your photo may lack color and flight but it doesn't lack interest. A nice blend of patterns and light.

@janis b Hi Janis,

Great image! Is it sand or mud at low tide? I could also see it as bark maybe. Wonderful pattern and textures!

take care and be well!

Hi all, Hey SP!

Hope folks are seeing signs of spring! If you live in the northern hemisphere of course.

Great butterfly photos SP! Those walk-in thingies are great for photos up close. They are people habituated too. In the wild often if you move too fast they bolt, like birds. I think there are old world and new world types (most of those) together in your series. Funny the Malachite, Julia, and Rusty-tipped Page all occur in south Texas where they are scarce to rare. Those three are common from Mexico aouthward. I have had a few Malachite and Julia where I am, awesome animals to surprise you in the wild. Although no accepted U.S. records, there are single sight records for Blue Morpho and the Owl, down in far far south Texas where lots of tropical stuff occurs, like Ocelot and Jagarundi and so on. Awesome shots man!

These are grabshots outside yesterday before sundown.

Postman photo, Sp. Great pics, you all. We are getting butterflies and moths starting to flutter around. I see a lot of what looks like Monarchs, but without being a photog where I can get a freeze frame image, I'm not sure?? We are getting our last cool spell now, then BAM!, right into summer. Funsies. Sad Good thing I'm used to it. Hope everyone is well. Rec'd from east central FL. Smile
