TV News
On my way home from the farm with earthling2 driving, so punching this out on my smarty phone.
One thing I like about being in a rural location is there is no TV and scattered radio. I lived without radio and TV for 18 years down in SoCal, so this is not new.
The news stations are all the same now anyway. They take their commercial breaks at the same time. The lead stories are all the same, even using the same verbiage and whole sentences sometimes.
Geeze, it's almost like it's all coming from the same source.
Lately I've noticed commercial pitches disguised as news.
So it's getting to the point where in a half-hour segment, there is only about 8 minutes of actual slanted news, including weather and traffic, and the rest is trying to separate you from your money.
No wonder I'm here getting my news.
So what's going on?

While we watch westerns on the Inspire channel, we get a slew of pharma ads. One day, it is blood pressure stuff, featuring elderly obese people talking about their return to great health. This morning, it is all about diabetes miracle meds, and all the elderly obese people swear they are feeling frisky now. Yesterday's high was 70 deg. Today, it will rise to 50 deg. The high winds are making it tough for birds to get around.
We intend to go to an LBJ museum this afternoon, shop for a book at the store in Luckenbach. Seems we rather look back than to look ahead.

I give traditionally rwnj sites a look nowadays. I skip their electoral political articles, but can often find some truthful and sensible stuff about current events and economic trends.
Argentina will learn to regret their mistake very soon. The Shah of Iran and Pinochet come to mind.

the saying goes. A bit of rain last week, next ten days is supposed to be dry.
Been trying to reset, reformat, repartition or otherwise super wipe an old laptop running xp. They seem to have prevented all normal means of doing any of the above, so I made an ubuntu 18.04 32 bit install DVD. With luck I can force it to boot from the dvd and then do a wipe, repartition, and, for the hell of it, go ahead with the install.
As a murrikan, I can sorta guess da news, so I sorta don't read or look at it unless there is some reason to expect comic relief or greater than usual absurdity. Mprning chores are almost all done, so I guess its back to the laptop.

Ubuntu install..
I've done that kind of install a couple of times with old laptops. One with the Linux on a USB stick, one on a DVD. Hope it all works (worked) out well!

TV News
No one is watching the news anymore. Can you blame them. Most of it isn't news. The three morning shows, on CBS, NBC, and ABC are horrific. And now they've each started to hawk products because of the lack of an audience. They have their "Steals and Deals" segment almost every day.
Another thing which people aren't watching is sports, especially football. That's why the NFL has latched on to Taylor Swift and that Travis whatever his name is. Anything for ratings.
