Bud Light

open thread_81.jpg

They pissed off a huge slice of the American people and now they are paying for it.
Bribing retailers to keep putting it on their shelves will not work.
100 million dollar sponsorships of UFC will only destroy ....the UFC.
Everything the Bud Light brand touches will turn to stone.
Anheiser-Busch executives are not smart enough to just end the brand before it takes down the entire A-B/inBev conglomerate.
The same behavior is seen in Ukraine. Keep pumping money into it till we get the results we want.
It's a disease running rampant with anyone above middle management.
It called doubledown-tripledown-fuck syndrome.
It perfectly fits the description of insanity, trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Now, I don't have a dog in this fight as I'm rather neutral when it comes to ID politics. I think it's all contrived and used to divide us anyway, as in divide and conquer.
It is certainly dividing us, and we are, for all intent and purposes, conquered.
But a very valuable precedent is put before us here. A very large segment of the populous has been angered to seething indignation.
And this is not the people anybody should want to tic off. Conservatives, (religious or otherwise), deplorables, (Trump supporting or not), beer drinkers, well, you never want to piss off beer drinkers.
The point is, these people never forget. And they will hold a grudge for a quarter of a millennium (since the Federalists lost power).
And they're vengeful, very vengeful. Many of them still fly their battleflag on their pickup trucks.
Yeah, those people.
The damage they are doing to A-B/inBev is something the BDS movement can only dream of.
The power of numbers is awesome.
As Americans, we hold immense power in our pocketbook. We can destroy multinational corporations with just what is in our wallets.
Our battle is not with a bunch of puppets on a string of greenbacks in DC.
The battle is with their puppetmasters, the multi-national corporations and their owners.

"The party spirits serves always to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another".
George Washington

We have witnessed what a weaponized dollar can do to whole countries around the world.
We need to pick up this weapon and start wielding it to re-assert our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Divide and conquer them one at a time.
They have no defense against this kind of assault.
Forget about putting the fear of God in them.
They need to fear us.
We can start with Anheiser-Busch/inBev.
Thread is open.

I'm not a Conservative. I quit drinking beer a few years ago. I'm not really even sure what exactly a deplorable is. But as for holding a grudge, you are correct. When Clinton enacted his "welfare reform" it hurt a lot of people. I was a young widow attempting to finish a college degree. Not only did he cut food stamps, he also cut public health. There was nowhere to even get a pap test or get treated for a cold. But the worse part was there was not even a grace period for people and even state governments to fund things.

And then when HER ran for president, I was told that it was him, it had nothing to do with her. Yeah right. I'll hold that grudge till the day I die. When you're trying and suddenly someone goes out of their way to make it harder on you, you remember.

Oh, and I drink beer. Begrudging comes easy.
Around these parts, red necks taunt anybody they see with a Bud light in their hand, calling them out for their homo beer. These red necks fully accept gays in their families and circles of friends. It is the marketing of Woke that pushed them to this edge.

...could be a Texas or a Confederate thang. It's possible that shit-howdy cowboy taunts toward strangers who were drinking a "gay" beer might have been happening coast to coast — but I don't think so.

"Woke" was a literary trick that journalists toyed with for a season — then people moved on. No one was dorky enough to identify with "woke.". I can't think of anyone who uses the word "woke" — not here, or anywhere else — particularly on the Left. The only people I've ever heard use the term "woke" are the out-of-touch, prayer-breakfast Republicans, who try to hate-mock a term that nobody uses. If that doesn't work, they pull "antifa" out of their carpet-bags — a term that nobody on the Left ever did use..

And then the gullible conservatives start sputtering over the obvious spook-planted term "defund the police." What does that even mean? It certainly doesn't come from the authentic, antiwar Left., who would simply cut to the chase with "off the pigs!" and be done with it.

The Left had long been good with the gays. So by the time the corporations started pandering to Pride, the Left was bored with rainbows and nipple rings The Real Left in the US is the true silent majority. Many of them where briefly sucked into Bernie Sanders sheep dogging, and rose up out of the shadows and scared the political Duopoly to death. But it was pretty clear to the thinking Left that the US was in its End Game, and circling the drain. It would soon become apparent that political reform was impossible.

The Left had never had the will or the power to build a political movement of their own in the United States. Politically, there was only "Right" and "Further to the Right." The Workers' and Labor movements came to terms with that before most of us were born.. The only battles that our generation of US Leftists fought for was stopping the "Vietnam Slaughter," promoting "The Free Speech Movement" and surviving places like "Sproul Plaza." No national political party would ever represent our principles and key views for a better society and a more just, nation.

Sproul Plaza was the rallying point on the UC Berkeley campus where students gathered to hear music and speeches during the student uprisings of the '60s. In May 1969, Gov. Ronald Reagan ordered the gassing (by helicopter!) and disbursement of students at the plaza, wounding 60 people and setting off 17 days of street fighting where 130 were shot and wounded. Police cordoned off the plaza prior to the gassing, trapping all the students and causing panic.

Said Ronald Reagan, who was already senile while he was governor of California: "If it's a blood bath they want, then let it be now." Cause that's how the US rolls.

@Pluto's Republic It wasn't a thing, then it is everywhere. Not a term commonly used by people on the streets, but by media. Everywhere. And it comes out of nowhere.
Gender ID preference is now on everything from job applications to doctors appointment sign in info docs. Parents in my office tell me their elementary kids worry if they are girls or boys, gay or cis. That isn't just Texas.
I can agree there are no true liberals in the US at least since the '50s. To claim the libs brought this movement is ridiculous. There are no liberals, as I said. It was foisted upon us by NGOs.
But man, oh man, it is divisive. It plays right in to the hands of the 1%.
I think "homo beer" has much less to do with denigrating gays as it does jokingly criticizing dumb asses for not boycotting or acknowledging this stupid marketing ploy. Target stores took a hit, and Walmart's plan to out woke Target was pulled back when the fallout became evident.

Hi all, Hey E1!

Hope its all good out there!

My understanding is that Bud Lite is down over 20% in sales, and Modelo is up over 20% in sales. Which is actually weird because these two beers are not particularly similar. One being a fine example of what Mexican brewers did with those original old German recipes they brought there*, the other being American domestic mass-produced watered-down panther piss.

Regardless, In/Bev is the parent company that OWNS BOTH. So their take is not in the big hurt overall big picture. On the other hand, it is seeming the Bud Lite brand is ruined. By modern degreed cutting-edgy marketing. Falling over itself, onto its own sword, to be 'in', 'cool', 'hip', 'faddy', and so on, until it actually humpty-dumptied itself. I for one guy that spent decade in a tie in corporate sales and marketing, am ROFLMAO.

What happened with Bud Lite will long be taught in sales, once they properly dissect it. It deserves a full autopsy. I think there was a crime. Wink

*the other thing the early German colonizers brought to Mexico, besides hops and brewing knowledge, was the sudden appearance of blue-eyed Mexicans wherever they were. Smile

Be well all!

@dystopian Now, I can't say for certain Bud Lite tastes like watered down panther piss. (Or, that Bud tastes like panther piss, for that matter.)
But what I can say is that I can drink Michelobe Ultra, Miller Lite, Coors Lite, and the light version of Imperial, and nary a headache. One bottle of Bud Lite or regular Bud will give me a crushing headache for hours on end, so maybe I am allergic to panther piss?
It's pretty cold here. Figure you are digging out your sweaters and jackets, too.
I wish I had a friend who taught university marketing classes. I would meet them at a bar, buy them a Bud Lite, and let the games begin.

Cassiodorus's picture

"Wokeness" starts from an innocuous insistence on justice.

What does it mean to be 'woke,' and why does Florida Governor Ron DeSantis want to stop it?

In the hands of the capitalists, of course, "wokeness" is about giving capitalism what the corporate executives think is an appealing flavor. Thus for instance you have Disney products that attempt to substitute "wokeness" for what in fiction used to be called "substance." If you want to see this trend eviscerated, there's always the Critical Drinker, although today there is a vast competition among YouTube critics to explain more thoroughly than the others why Disney is crap.

In their criticisms of "wokeness," however, its critics bring up all sorts of other related issues. Here I'd like to say something too brief about the most often-discussed one: transgender politics.

When I lived in southern California I knew transgendered individuals. Transgendered individuals are biological men/ boys who want to be women/ girls, and biological women/ girls who want to be men/ boys. The primary difficulties experienced by these individuals at this time in history stem from the fact that the technology for giving these individuals the transformations they want does not exist in full at this time. And, so, you have terms such as "gender dysphoria" being used. Transgendered individuals in our society are, then, those desperate enough to want a different gender designation right now. Those who might enjoy having a different gender designation but who are not desperate enough, well, they're not transgendered. Or so we think.

I view it as highly likely that if our society were to end its pursuits of US military supremacy and of indefinite preservation of the social classes, it could devote its energies to creating the medical technologies for (among many other things) allowing men to become women, and women to become men in a sense which is, unfortunately, not available at this time. A side effect of such a technological push would be the vast extension of the human lifespan. And that would be one way of solving the problem of transgendered individuals.

Parents in my office tell me their elementary kids worry if they are girls or boys, gay or cis.

That is very disturbing.

I tend to see the self-manufactured crises over 'other-people's' gender adjustments as an extension of US political warfare. The amount of time that US politicians and preachers — especially Christian Republicans — spend obsessing over the private parts and sexual proclivities of complete strangers is a national disgrace. I'm only now starting to realize how dangerous religious delusions are when they result from a belief in an anthropomorphic gods. It's a plague upon the entire planet — and not the simple-minded delusion that I once thought it was.

@Pluto's Republic religious beliefs have driven the migrations, wars, consolidation, division, enslavement, and dictated who lived, how they lived, and how and when they died. Without religion, I cannot fathom what history might look like.
We have twisted non-belief into atheism and describe it as a set of beliefs. To which I say, "WTF?"
At least we could leave kids who are by definition non-sexualized out of the propaganda. They are confused enough about how to survive in this world.
