Friday Night Photos Pollinator Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

Pollinators are an incredible group of animals that ensure the health of our ecosystems by helping plants to reproduce. Without them life as we know it would cease to exist. 1,200 crops and over 180,000 species of plants require pollination. That's a lot of work for some very small critters. Most of that work is done by bees, flies, beetles, butterflies, and moths.

the hollies out front. The bee box house I built years ago is now a go to place
for the mason bees. Wonder why it took them so long to find it?

This is my partner's idea of a defensive strategy on a board game.

The mashmallow defense. I haven't seen that used in ages.
Your lilacs look like fertile ground for the pollinators.
Love the Jethro Tull selections. It's been a long time since I've heard "To Cry You A Song".

@QMS of that LP on vinyl. My hubster is a Tullhead (similar to a Deadhead, LOL). "Teacher" will always be one of my all-time fave rock tunes. Smile

the chorus of the spring peepers in the ponds is melodic now!
Soon the tree frogs will join in the rhapsody.

during the winter months where I live. This time of year I hear the Cassin's Kingbird calling in the early morning hours. They start in around 4am and go until a little after sunup.

continue on till about midnight
tree frogs go on all night but seem
to fluctuate depending on groupie
noise - a couple start then the rest
join in. Kinda fun to listen to the lingo.

@Socialprogressive @Socialprogressive Hey SP!

Their 'dawn chorus' singing (which is really pre-dawn) of Cassin's Kingbird is outstanding... so excited about the new day coming... listened to many a morn from my sleeping bag somewhere waiting for it to get light enough to bird.

Nice selection of pollinators. I was seeing a lot of Monarch butterflies around here about a year ago but they've been scarce the last few months. I see lots of spiders in my yard all the time but I have yet to see a spider hatch. Hopefully some day soon.

Funny and great music choice to go with the busyness of bees and other pollinators, including the human variety ; )

Thank you for your photos and humour. I might refer to you in the future as Social in So Cal.

Hi all, Hey SP!

GREAT bug shots SP!

Whaddyknow, a Milkweed Bug on that Milkweed. Whooda thunk? Isn't that 'Tropical Milkweed' in Image 4?

Hummingbirds are fairly important pollinators for many plants too. Sunbirds fill that niche in the 'old world'. Bats too deserve mention, Saguaro is bat pollinated.

Everything is connected.

Thanks for the outstanding shots and OT SP!

Hi all,

I gotta fly so a hit and run...

A male Yellow Warbler was at the bath last weekend... finally got a shot showing some of the red streaks of breeding plumage. Is brighter than here in shade, and gets even more extensive too.

yewa051124c.jpg

As much as they feed in flowers, surely warblers, vireos, orioles, and other birds are important pollinators too.

Happy trails all!

a treat for me. Smile Sp, your next-to-last photo tickled my funnybone. Wonderful images, all. Haven't seen bees, but the butterflies and moths are showing up. I think I mentioned seeing a Monarch near my orchids. Smile Anywho, storms and storm season are the news here. The Panhandle has been getting slammed. It's not even H3ll/Hurricane Season yet! Liked the tunes, too. Stay safe, you all. Rec'd!!

I was at an orchid exhibit on Wed. There was one orchid there that smelled like Vick's Vapor Rub. Not sure if that helps it attract pollinators or not but it sure attracted a lot of people.
